Upon this report the Secretary issued an order to discontinue their use, and remove them from the building. Pending the execution of this order he examined, at my request, the machines while at work, and being satisfied from this examination that \the report upon which his order was issued was not sustained by the facts, he rescinded the order, and directed me to submit a programme for taking the small notes (one and two dollars) under my charge, in a separate room, to trim and separate them by these machines, propelled by steam power.
