What does it take to make you feel "high"? Do you routinely reach for caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes, or sugary snacks to get you through the day? Unfortunately, the quick fixes we have become accustomed to don't work long-term, and often contribute further to the underlying problems of fatigue, depression, brain fog, and anxiety. In Natural Highs, two leading authorities in psychology and nutrition present a prescriptive breakthrough program based on nutritional supplements, herbs, and simple mind-body therapies that will help to increase energy, sharpen the mind, elevate mood, relax the body, and beat stress. Their remarkable research shows how to formulate the perfect "brainfood" to improve how we think and feel, resulting in a greater sense of connection and joy in everyday life-the natural high.

Introducing a radical approach to wellness: This self-help guide rejects ‘one-size-fits-all’ dieting and health advice to offer practical strategies and tools for getting healthy—your way. What kind of society makes being healthy and happy so difficult that only a single-digit percentage of the population can hope to pull it off? The answer: A sick society. And within a sick society—one where illness, anxiety, and depression are the prevailing norms—what does it mean to be one of the few people to beat those unhealthy odds? It means bucking a lot of your society’s norms and rejecting a lot of its conventional health prescriptions. It also means acknowledging a disturbing truth: If you aren’t breaking the rules, you’re probably breaking yourself. That’s the simple, provocative philosophy behind The Healthy Deviant, one seasoned health journalist’s quest to reframe healthy choices as a positive form of social rebellion. Combining hand-drawn infographics and statistics with insights from sociology, psychology, evolutionary biology, functional medicine, and the school of hard knocks, this category-defying book rejects the idea that diet and exercise alone can save us—or are even the best places to start. Gerasimo’s 14-day Healthy-Deviant Adventure Program presents a series of powerful perspective shifts and simple daily practices—plus illustrations, infographics, worksheets, reminders, and progress tracking tools—that put you firmly back in charge of your own wellbeing. Part manifesto, part whispered wake-up call, The Healthy Deviant is a modern-day survival guide for being a healthy person in an unhealthy world. Starting now.

The inflorescence of the monoecious maize plant is unique among the Gramineae in the sharp separation of the male and female structures. The male tassel at the terminus of the plant most often sheds pollen before the visual appearance of the receptive silks of th the female ear at a lateral bud, normally at the 10 leaf [I]. Earlier studies examined the ontogeny of the growing tissues beginning with the embryo in the kernel through to the obvious protuberances of the growing point as the kernel germinates. The differentiated developing soon-to-become tassel and the lateral bulges that develop into the ears on the lateral buds become apparent very early in the germinating kernel [2, 3, 46]. A certain number of cells are destined for tassel and ear development [8]. As the plant develops, there is a phase transition [\3, 16] from the vegetative lateral buds to the reproductive lateral buds. This change in phase has been ascribed to genotypic control as evidenced in the differences among different genotypes in the initiation of the reproductive [I]. The genetic control of tassel and ear initiation has been gleaned from anatomical observations. Lejeune and Bernier [I2] found that maize plants terminate the initiation of additional axillary meristems at the time of tassel initiation. This would indicate that the top-most ear shoot is initiated on the same day as the initiation of tassel development and this event signals the end of the undifferentiated growing point.

On his way to fifty, Vincent Interlande thought he lived a normal life until the many pressures of that life took him down. After thirty years, his marriage ended in divorce, blowing apart any sense that his life was well-balanced and harmonious. In the darkness of divorce, his soul sank into despair, and his mind began to reveal the emotional shadows that had eroded his life. He began to discover that he wore a mask of his faults, weaknesses, and failures. A shadow of the person he once was, he knew that it was time to figure out who he really was. It was time to live again. Like others, he faced trauma, heartache, disappointment, and grief that threw his behavior and emotional health out of balance. For Vincent, balance was restored via the written word and music. Emotional Transition is the product of his personal quest for understanding and sanity in a life that seemed devoid of both. A collection of musings on the experiences that contributed to his failures and his hidden, weak emotions, it documents how he overcame it all after a traumatic event. Through the use of detailed thought, personal stories of humor as well as misfortune presented as symbolic poetry, prose, and story, he seeks to inspire readers to become more aware of themselves as well. The readings may seem like only a personal stories but if read by the individual reader's portraying of him/herself with the content of this book, they will gain insight into themselves. This is the intent of Emotional Transition. Vincent challenges the reader to walk in his shoes, look in the mirror, and then ask themselves, What person is looking back at me, and where is that life going from here?
