Search for Charmless Hadronic Decays of B Mesons with the SLD Detector

Book Description

Based on a sample of approximately 500,000 hadronic Z° decays accumulated between 1993 and 1998, the SLD experiment has set limits on 24 fully charged two-body and quasi two-body exclusive charmless hadronic decays of B, B°, and B{sub s}° mesons. The precise tracking capabilities of the SLD detector provided for the efficient reduction of combinatoric backgrounds, yielding the most precise available limits for ten of these modes.

Hadronic Charmless B Decays at the SLD.

Book Description

Rare decays of beauty particles were studied in several two-body exclusive hadronic charmless modes using the 19.4 pb-1 Z-pole data collected with the SLD detector at SLAC from 1993 to 1998. These decays are mediated by both tree level b 2!u and one-loop penguin b 2!s, d transitions. Upper limits for the branching ratios are set for the investigated modes Bs, B0 2!P+P-, B+ 2!V P+ and Bs, B0 2!V V, where the pseudoscalar particle P+ is either?+ or K+ and the vector particle V is either?0, K* 0 or?. Using an event selection algorithm consisting of a set of hard cuts combined with a set of discriminator functions, the efficiencies range between 24% and 37% with near zero background.

Charmless Hadronic B Decays at BaBar

Book Description

We present preliminary results of several searches for rare charmless hadronic decays of the B meson using data collected by the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center's PEP-II storage ring. We search for the decays hh−, h+h−h+, h+h−?°, X°h+, and X°K{sub S}°, where h =? or K, and X° =?' or?. In a sample of 8.8 million B{bar B} decays they measure the branching fractions. They calculate upper limits for the modes without a significant signal.

Search for Rare B-meson Decays with a Charmless Hadronic State Recoiling Against K-meson at the PEP-II Asymmetric B-meson Factory

Book Description

This document presents results of the search for B + → etaXK+ in which etaX → etapi+pi - or etaX → K0S K+pi-, and etaX is a potentially exotic state with a resonant mass within (1.2-1.8) GeV. We use the BABAR data of 382.9 million BB pairs and report the first observation of B+ → eta(1295) K+ and B+ → eta(1475)K+, and set upper limits for the modes listed below. We also consider an alternative signal model in the etaX → K0S K+/-pi∓ mode with an extra resonance, to better describe the meson mass spectrum. We provide the central values where possible. Hermitian conjugation is implied throughout the document unless stated otherwise. Study of the Rare Charmless Hadronic B Meson Decays B-zero to Phi K-zero and B-zero to K-star-plus Pi-minus

Book Description

This thesis describes the analyses of the rare charmless hadronic B meson decays B° 2!?K° and B° 2!K*?−, using 20.58 fb−1 of e+e− data taken at the?(4S) resonance. The data were taken with the BABAR detector during its first run at the PEP-II asymmetric e+e− collider. Measurements of these modes using a counting technique are presented with the branching fractions?(B° 2!?K°) = (9.3 ± 3.4(stat.) ± 1.1(syst.)) x 10−6 with a significance of 4.9?, and?(B° 2!K*+?−) = (20.8 ± 9.3(stat.) ± 2.1(syst.)) x 10−6 with a significance of 3.0?. For the latter, an upper limit of?(B° 2!K*+?−)
