A Search for the Rare and Forbidden Decays D0 2!V L+ L-

Book Description

I report the results of a search for flavor-changing neutral current, leptonflavor, and lepton-number violating decays of the 3 and 4-body decay modes of the D0 (and its antiparticle) containing muons and electrons. Using data from Fermilab charm hadroproduction experiment E791, I examine modes with two leptons and either a [rho]0, $\bar{K}$0, or [Phi] vector meson or a non-resonant [pi][pi], K[pi], or KK pair of pseudoscalar mesons. No evidence for any of these decays is found. Therefore, branching-fraction upper limits, typically at the 10-4 level, are presented at the 90% confidence level for the 27 decay modes examined. Of these searches, 18 are investigations of decays without previous published results; several others have significantly improved sensitivity over previous results.

Search for Rare and Forbidden Decays of D0-]l+l-

Book Description

We report on a search for the flavor-changing neutral current decays D{sup 0} {yields} e{sup +}e{sup -} and D{sup 0} {yields} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -}, and the lepton-flavor violating decay D{sup 0} {yields} e{sup {+-}}{mu}{sup {-+}}. The measurement is based on 122fb{sup -1} of data collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. No evidence is found for any of the decays. The upper limits on the branching fractions, at the 90% confidence level, are 1.2 x 10{sup -6} for D{sup 0} {yields} e{sup +}e{sup -}, 1.3 x 10{sup -6} for D{sup 0} {yields} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -}, and 8.1 x 10{sup -7} for D{sup 0} {yields} e{sup {+-}}{mu}{sup {-+}}.

Rare and Forbidden Decays of D Mesons

Book Description

The authors summarize the results of two recent searches for flavor-changing neutral current, lepton-flavor violating, and lepton-number violating decays of D, D{sub s}, and D° mesons (and their antiparticles) into modes containing muons and electrons. using data from Fermilab charm hadroproduction experiment E791, they examined D+ and D{sub s}+ [pi]ll and [Kappa]ll decay modes and the D° dilepton decay modes containing either l+l−, a [rho]°, {bar [Kappa]}*°, or [phi] vector meson, or a non-resonant [pi][pi], [Kappa][pi], or [Kappa]{Kappa} pair of pseudoscalar mesons. No evidence for any of these decays was found. Therefore, the authors presented branching-fraction upper limits at 90% confidence level for the 51 decay modes examined. Twenty-six of these modes had no previously reported limits, and eighteen of the remainder were reported with significant improvements over previously published results.

Searches for Rare Or Forbidden Semileptonic Charm Decays

Book Description

We present searches for rare or forbidden charm decays of the form X{sub c} 2!h{sup ±}l{sup {-+}}l{sup ({prime})+}, where X{sub c} is a charm hardron (D+, D{sub s}+, or [Lambda]{sub c}+), h{sup {+-}} is a pion, kaon, or proton, and l{sup ({prime}){+-}} is an electron or muon. The analysis is based on 384 fb−1 of e+e− annihilation data collected at or close to the [Upsilon](4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. No significant signal is observed for any of the 35 decay modes that are investigated. We establish 90% confidence-level upper limits on the branching fractions between 1 x 10−6 and 44 x 10−6 depending on the channel. In most cases, these results represent either the first limits or significant improvements on existing limits for the decay modes studied.
