Peter Shumway, a Huguenot, fled France to America about 1660 to escape religious persecution. Two centuries later, his descendant Charles Shumway, fled with the Mormom pioneers to western America for the same reason. He had 21 children who reared families, and 201 grandchildren. This book documents his large family, and his contributions as an American pioneer.

This book is a real story about an ordinary family from Albia, Iowa, who in 1862 crossed the Oregon Trail and settled in the lower Powder River Valley in what today is Baker City, Oregon. Within two years, family members were part of a thriving dry-goods and mercantile business in the gold-mining town of Mormon Basin, selling rubber boots, shovels, and liquor to both American and Chinese miners. By the late 1860s, the easy gold had been panned and sluiced out so the miners moved on to chase bigger dreams in newer places. So too did some of the family members; they sold their business interests and with a saddlebag full of gold rode north to Umatilla County, Oregon, where in 1871 they started a ranch and cattle business. Portions of James Shumway’s Couse Creek Ranch near Milton-Freewater are still owned by descendants; it is an Oregon State Centennial Ranch. This book uses old photographs, letters, documents, business journals, personal diaries, and contemporary research to recount 150 years of Barton–Shumway family history in eastern Oregon. It is a story told through the lives of some of the real people who survived it.

The Story of You is about the certainty of God’s ridiculous love for you, as presented in scripture. For years, society and church institutions have misrepresented and marred the character of God and His son, Jesus Christ by teaching disgusting lies about eternal hell and a failed plan. The bible says that it is the glory of God to conceal a matter, and the glory of kings to investigate a matter. The reader must be willing to dig below the surface on his or her own to investigate the truth. This book is only meant to open your eyes to the scriptures that clearly teach that God, through Christ Jesus, will save every man, woman and child that has ever walked the face of this Earth. The Almighty God has planned each and every step that you will take and it ends with you enjoying everlasting life with Him. This is your story and everyone else’s; that no one, not one person that has ever lived will be separated from God for eternity but all will be filled with God’s glory through the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. The picture on this back cover is the eternal hell that Jesus spoke of. It is the Valley of Gehenna and you can visit it today if you want to take a trip to Israel. Jesus never taught and neither does any scripture in the bible teach of a place of eternal torment. Christ Jesus will fill every human with God’s glory and all will be with Him in the end.
