Corrosion of Steel Pilings in Soils

Book Description

Results of inspections made on steel pilings which have been in service in various underground structures under a wide variety of soil conditions for periods of exposure up to 40 years are presented. In general, no appreciable corrosion of steel piling was found in undistrubed soil below the water table regardless of the soil types or soil properties encountered.Above the water table and in fill soils corrosion was found to be variable but not serious. It is indicated that corrosion data previously published by the National Bureau of Standards on specimens exposed under distrubed soil conditions do not apply to pilings which are driven in undistrubed soils.(Author).

Metals in Soil

Book Description

The anthropogenic input of metals into the atmosphere is estimated to be one-to-three orders of magnitude higher than natural fluxes. Soil acts as the primary sink for anthropogenic metals among the environmental spheres. Most metals show indefinite persistence in the ecosphere due to resistance against microbial or chemical-assisted degradation. This edited book is an attempt to compile reviews and case studies from different researchers focusing on different aspects of soil contamination by metals and its subsequent remediation. The book's contents will be useful for researchers and strategists interested in the environmental aspects of soil contamination.

Characterization of Minerals, Metals, and Materials 2021

Book Description

The collection focuses on the advancements of characterization of minerals, metals, and materials and the applications of characterization results on the processing of these materials. Advanced characterization methods, techniques, and new instruments are emphasized. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: · Novel methods and techniques for characterizing materials across a spectrum of systems and processes. · Characterization of mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical, dielectric, magnetic, physical, and other properties of materials. · Characterization of structural, morphological, and topographical natures of materials at micro- and nano- scales. · Characterization of extraction and processing including process development and analysis. · Advances in instrument developments for microstructure analysis and performance evaluation of materials, such as computer tomography (CT), X-ray and neutron diffraction, electron microscopy (SEM, FIB, TEM), and spectroscopy (EDS, WDS, EBSD) techniques. · 2D and 3D modelling for materials characterization. The book explores scientific processes to characterize materials using modern technologies, and focuses on the interrelationships and interdependence among processing, structure, properties, and performance of materials.
