An account of several generations of American Shapleys, beginning with the Marblehead fisherman David Shapley ( -1720). Both a family history and a window on the American history of which the Shapleys were a part, the documentation sets down what is known about the Shapley of that generation, provides several generations of that ancestor's siblings, and outlines the pedigree of his spouse. Appendices provide data on other early Shapley-Shapleigh immigrants to America.
