Airport Surface Weather Observation Options for General Aviation Airports

Book Description

"This report identifies currently available options for providing airport surface weather observations at general aviation airports. Surface weather observations are an important component of many operational decisions at general aviation airports, particularly those related to go/no go, runway and approach selection, and crosswind landings. In some cases, specific airport surface weather observation information is required to meet regulatory requirements for specific types of aviation operations, including takeoffs and landings under instrument flight rules. The need for surface weather observations at general aviation airports varies depending on the type of operations that an airport can, or wishes to, support. This study is based on information acquired through a literature review and survey results from 27 airports participating in the study located in several geographic regions across the United States. Results of the literature review and survey and case examples describing the different types of surface weather observing capabilities currently employed at general aviation airports are presented." -- Publisher's website.

Meteorology For Pilots

Book Description

This new third edition of 'Meteorology for Pilots' has been modified to satisfy all aspects of the meteorological requirements necessary to be JAR compliant. It also discusses the latest data concerning global warming and its consequences, especially in relation to the El Nino effect. For aviation the study of meterology provides knowledge and awareness of the atmosphere, which is, after all, the medium within which the pilot works. A proper study of the subject will provide the basis that can enable a pilot to appreciate properly the weather forecast given to him for a flight - and indeed to forecast for himself. Technical aircraft safety is now approaching the highest standards, whilst safety affected by particular weather conditions remains a large problem.Clearly a proper study of meteorology can only assist the pilot in providing safe passage.
