Surgical Nursing in War (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Surgical Nursing in War The surgical literature of the Great War already includes many scores of valuable and illuminating articles contributed to various periodicals, and a few books. From these voluminous sources, supple mented by letters from the front, it has been thought desirable to collect the lessons and descriptions which are of vital import, that they may be avail able for ready reference by those who contemplate joining the nursing corps of Military Hospitals (or have already done so), as their time is of necessity too limited for the wide reading involved. Useful suggestions have been received from those who have been personally in service at the front, and indebted ness is hereby acknowledged to the valuable work of Major Hull - Surgery in War - which has been freely consulted and quoted in regard to descriptions of methods practised by members of the Royal Army Medical Corps of Great Britain. War Nursing

Book Description

Excerpt from War Nursing: A d104-Book for the Auxiliary Nurse With the largest part of the civilized world at war, millions of men in the fighting lines, every day bringing thousands of freshly wounded and sick, women everywhere are eager to help their country and their men. Nursing the wounded has been woman's work ever since the world began, and it is an essentially womanly work. The modern woman recognizes the need of training for war nursing, the more so that in this war medical science and surgical skill have developed to a point where special knowledge is absolutely requisite. Thousands of women, not hospital trained, have tried to prepare themselves to be of assistance in war nursing. Many of them have taken short, practical courses of one sort or another. With them all there has been a constant demand for a text-book of nursing as applied to war; more, a book on nursing as applied to this war. Surgical Nursing and Technique a Book for Nurses, Dressers, House Surgeons, Etc (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Surgical Nursing and Technique a Book for Nurses, Dressers, House Surgeons, Etc Some small Share in awakening authorities to this crying injustice, and in the amelioration we see coming to the nursing profession in both directions. The Short chapter on nursing in military hospitals has been omitted, as it only dealt in the barest and most perfunctory method with the subject, and no useful purpose would be served by retaining it now. Plates Of the tetanus bacillus and the Bacillus perfringens, which gained such an unenviable notoriety during the war, with short descriptions of them, have been added. Inasmuch as the treatment of the septic wounds of war made such enormous advances, we may expect in the future a great improvement in the treatment of the septic wounds of peace, such as arise from accidents of various kinds, and the bearing of aseptic technique upon these, derived from the war's experience, has been emphasized on many occasions in this edition. I have also introduced the latest informa tion on wound shock, which engaged the attention Of so many investigators during the war, and have drawn attention to its bearing on the incidence and treatment of operative shock and shock following the accidents of civil life. A few modern instruments have been intro duced, and plates of those going or gone out of use have been omitted, and the book has been generally brought up to date. The war has, as might have been expected, furnished great opportunities for surgery, and surgeons and nurses alike will revert to the practice Of civil surgery better equipped in many particulars for the exercise of their calling. I have endeavoured to in dicate these in the present edition. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
