Interlingua, som offentliggjordes år 1951 som resultatet av ett 25-årigt vetenskapligt lagarbete under ledning av framstående språkmän, kan sägas vara ett moderniserat latin och har efter detta språks tillbakagång alla förutsättningar att spela en viktig roll som framtidens internationella språk. Interlinguas ordförråd är helt internationellt. Språket förstås därför utan svårighet av varje kultiverad person efter en stunds studium av dess grammatik. Interlinguas grammatik är mycket enkel och naturlig. Språket är därför flera gånger lättare att lära än något nationellt språk.
