Reina Maruyama has always had sweet memories of her hometown of Kyoto, Japan. But when her father dies and her mother relocates her to Tokyo, life for Reina is turned on its head. Longing for the home she lost, she struggles to adjust, until a fateful accident takes her back to Amai Omoide, her family’s traditional sweets shop in the heart of Kyoto. But Amai Omoide is more than just a business; it’s the Maruyama family’s legacy. When Reina’s uncle, the head sweet artisan, falls ill, it’s up to Reina to save the shop and preserve her family’s heritage. Yet there is more at stake than the shop’s future. When Reina’s childhood friend Hajime returns suddenly from France, she can’t help but feel an irresistible pull to the kind young man she’s known all her life. As Reina and Hajime’s relationship blossoms, dark secrets from both their pasts come knocking on the doors of Amai Omoide. To save the shop and each other, they must set aside their doubts and hold on to what has always mattered most: love and family.

Sweet Memories are a collection of my writings during the past fifteen years after retirement while living in Virginia Beach and Bettendorf. In both places I joined a writer’s club. The Bettendorf group leader Dr. Margie Schwaninger is an outstanding writer, motivator, and leader. When we took a break this summer, she challenged us to look at our old writings and to put them to good use. This book results from my “looking at my old writings.” I wrote about a variety of subjects. Some were about our culture, customs, work, travel, members of the family and friends who influenced my life and made significant contributions to the world at large, some general topics such as security alarms, railways, Amish and Mennonite and so on. I also copied some articles of interest from my book “Memoirs of Pastor A.C. Samuel.” I have referred to my husband as Daddy, John and at other times as Dr. Thomas in some of these articles. These topics cover life in India and the United States of America.

THE TENTH CLIFFEHAVEN NOVEL BY SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR ELLIE DEAN ‘I’m not working on a factory floor or digging for victory, but in my own small way I do what I can for those I love.’ It’s 1943 and Peggy Reilly is at her best when the troubles of war come knocking at the door of Beach View Boarding House – especially when it concerns her younger sister, Doreen. Doreen is divorced from Eddie, but his letters have taken on a more threatening tone of late. When Doreen barely survives a traumatic disaster whilst on leave in London, she returns home to Peggy and Cliffehaven in the hope that the love and comfort she will find there can help her recover. However, Eddie continues to be an unsettling reminder of her past - and Doreen’s life is about to change dramatically. A fabulous, heart-warming Second World War novel in Ellie Dean's bestselling Cliffehaven series (previously called the Beach View Boarding House series).

Whether your taste was for fiddlestix or Flavour Ravers, Trigger bars or Two and Twos, Marathons or macaroons, Peggy's Legs or Push Pops, Liquorice Allsorts or Little Devils, You'll Ruin Your Dinner has something for you. From the heyday of Cleeve's toffee to the birth of the Tayto Cheese & Onion crisp, it transports us back to the days when sweet shop windows across the country boasted tempting confectionery displays, when summer was heralded with a visit from the ice-cream cart, and when Grafton Street was the sweet shop capital of Ireland. And then there was the golden age of Irish-made sweets, when the entire nation downed tools to listen to Fry-Cadbury's soap The Kennedys of Castleross and Gay Byrne cut his teeth on The Urney Programme. The next three decades brought enduring favourites along with fleeting fads, but the craving for a sugar-rush remained steadfast for generations of Irish kids to come. These mouth-watering memories are captured here across the decades in an assortment that will keep you dipping back in for more - and it won't ruin your dinner.
