Punt

Book Description

PUNT is the true story of John Nies. John gets cut from the NFL's Buffalo Bills and then goes down a uniquely dark path filled with orgies, black tar heroin, auditions with Joel Schumacher for the role of Batman, marijuana kingpins, Mexican Federales, tryouts with the Pittsburgh Steelers, hang-outs with: Pam Anderson, WWE Superstar Goldberg, and his MTV famous brother, Eric Nies. John had no clue that oil wrestling on that particular night, "the prettiest girl he ever saw," at the Hollywood Tropicana would change his life forever. "It's hard to read about such a great talent flushing his God-given gift down the toilet in deference to pleasures of the flesh, drugs and just plain excess. It's a combination of a non-fiction based novel, married with a self-discovery book in which the epic tragedy doesn't fully round out until it plummets way past the point of redemption even seeming possible." - Mark Ross"I used to think that I've lived a full and wild life...then I read PUNT and now I feel like Mother Teresa!" - Buck J.

The Mystery of the Land of Punt Unravelled

Book Description

This book contains convincing evidence and persuasive arguments to cause a stir among historians - Egyptologists in particular - as it will expose archaeological findings excavated in an area that has never been thought to have historical significance. This is no place other than Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, and surrounding areas. While the ground-breaking information contained in this book is hoped to bring the long standing argument on the location of the mysterious Land of Punt almost to a close, it will also shed a new light on the race controversy surrounding ancient Egyptians.

Seafaring Expeditions to Punt in the Middle Kingdom

Book Description

In the 12th Dynasty (ca. 1985-1773 BC) the Egyptian state sent a number of seafaring expeditions to the land of Punt, located somewhere in the southern Red Sea region, in order to bypass control of the upper Nile by the Kerma kingdom. Excavations at Mersa/Wadi Gawasis on the Red Sea coast of Egypt from 2001 to 2011 have uncovered evidence of the ancient harbor (Saww) used for these expeditions, including parts of ancient ships, expedition equipment and food – all transported ca. 150 km across the desert from Qift in Upper Egypt to the harbor. This book summarizes the results of these excavations for the organization of these logistically complex expeditions, and evidence at the harbor for the location of Punt. “[There] is no shortage of analysis relating to the Punt expeditions, much of which is likely to become the new ‘standard’ account of these voyages and of the huge logistical and ideological undertaking they represented. The volume will therefore be of immense value to scholars and students of ancient Egypt, and of ancient seafaring more generally.” - Julian Whitewright, University of Southampton, in: The International Journal of Nautical Archaeology 48.2 (2019)

Tales of a Clear, Dark Night

Book Description

Humanity, we are taught, has always looked to the heavens for inspiration, solace, even salvation. Why? What did our ancestors see there? How was it understood? And how will we, in this enlightened, high-tech age, benefit by discovering the motives and miscalculations of ancient teachings? Jansen Estrups Tales of a Clear, Dark Night is a stunning inquiry into the essence of archaeological, mythic and cosmological lore, and their relationship to the pandemic of violence at large in todays societies. Working the night watch with unusual savvy, he balances toughness with compassion while deftly illustrating the murderous intrigues which are uncovered. An original and controversial thinker, Estrup concludes that all oppression is rooted in nothing less than the stories we tell each other and our children. Asking questions until he has answers, the author masterfully weaves together the threads of past and present into a griping read.

TALES OF DARING AND DANGER

Book Description

Well, about the time I joined, the Dacoits were unusually troublesome; the police had a hard time of it, and almost lived in the saddle, and the cavalry were constantly called up to help them, while detachments of infantry from the station were under canvas at several places along the top of the Ghauts to cut the bands off from their strongholds, and to aid, if necessary, in turning them out of their rock fortresses. The natives in the valleys at the foot of the Ghauts, who have always been a semi-independent race, ready to rob whenever they saw a chance, were great friends with the Dacoits, and supplied them with provisions whenever the hunt on the Deccan was too hot for them to make raids in that direction...FROM THE BOOK.
