Book Description
Previous research has investigated the effects of various forms of training in male soccer athletes. However, the female population has been largely overlooked. Therefore, there is an increasing need to expand research to also include female soccer athletes and the effects of various forms of training. Purpose: To determine whether a six-week interval-training improves aerobic and anaerobic performance variables of various soccer related skills in female soccer athletes. Methods: Ten female college soccer athletes (20.18 " 0.965 years) participated in a six-week interval training program including on-ball and off-ball training. The first three weeks consisted of off-ball training. The second three weeks consisted of on-ball training, including small-sided games. Results: Following the intervention, the participants showed a 6% decrease in body fat percentage, 12% decrease in resting heart rate, 21% increase in VO2max, 5% increase in vertical jump, and 11% decrease in fatigue time during Bangsbo's Soccer Sprint Test. Conclusion: The present data suggest that the six-week interval training intervention showed improvement in body composition, aerobic, and anaerobic performance measures, all closely related to soccer performance.
