World renowned poet and thinker Sheikh Saadi's teachings carry a flavour of humor but they are so penetrating and touching that in spite of their lightness, they shake our heart and mind. In these sayings of 'Gulistaan', Sheikh Saadi has threaded some rare pearls to make human life better and more beautiful. He has transformed his realistic preachings into sweet sayings in such a way that it would wake anyone, who is broken down and sad, to bloom like Gulistaan. This collection of his preachings is so valuable that with it we can evaluate our own strengths and weaknesses to move on the right path

Saadi is one of the greatest figures of classical Persian literature. His best-known work of poetry is the ‘Bustan’ (The Orchard), composed entirely in epic metre and consisting of stories illustrating the standard virtues recommended to Muslims, as well as offering reflections on the behaviour of dervishes and their ecstatic practices. Saadi also wrote the ‘Gulistan’, a prose collection featuring stories and personal anecdotes. The text is interspersed with a variety of short poems, containing aphorisms, advice and humorous reflections. Saadi’s works are characterised by their unusual blend of kindness and cynicism, always wishing to avoid the hard dilemma, making him, for many, the most widely admired poet of Persian literature. The Delphi Poets Series offers readers the works of literature’s finest poets, with superior formatting. This volume presents Saadi’s collected works, with related illustrations and the usual Delphi bonus material. This volume engages with antisemitic stereotypes as religious symbols that express and transmit a belief system of Jew-hatred. These religious symbols are stored in Christian, Muslim and even today’s secular cultural and religious memories. This volume explores how antisemitic religious symbol systems can play a key role in the construction of group identities.

Saadi of Shiraz (1210-91) was a major Persian poet and prose writer of the medieval period. Admired for the quality of his writings and for the depth of his social and moral thoughts, he is recognized as one of the greatest poets of the classical literary tradition, earning him the nickname of 'Master of Speech', or simply 'Master, ' among Persian scholars. His best-known works are Bustan (The Orchard), completed in 1257, and Gulistan (The Rose Garden), completed in 1258. Bustan is written entirely in verse (epic metre) and consists of stories aptly illustrating the standard virtues recommended to Muslims (justice, liberality, modesty, contentment), and reflections on the behaviour of dervishes and their ecstatic practises. This English translation by A Hart Edwards, who also wrote the introduction, was published in 1911 as part of John Murray's The Wisdom of the East series
