The Cambridge University Calendar for the Year 1914-1915 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from The Cambridge University Calendar for the Year 1914-1915 Except for the year 1798, the Calendar has appeared annually since 1796. III 1803 the title was temporarily changed to The Cambridge University Register, and the following year's issue, edited by a member of the Senate, was dedicated to William Pitt and the Earl of Euston. The Calendar was printed at the University Press in 1803 and 1804, and this has also been the case from 1826 to the present time. Finally, in 1914 the proprietorship of the Work was transferred from Messrs Deighton, Bell Co. To the Syndics of the Press, who are now responsible for its publication. The last issue of the Calendar, published in October 1913, had reached unwieldy dimensions. It contained cxxiv+ 1423: 1547 pages, and was sold at 93. Net. The size of the new issue has been reduced to xxx 1034 1064 pages, and the price to 7 3. 6d. Net. This reduction has been effected (1) by transferring some 450 pp. Of Tripos Lists to The Historical Register (see next page) and retaining only the Lists for the preceding 10 years, and (2) by treating The Student's Handbook as a companion volume to The Calendar and omitting from the latter the information about examinations, etc., which the former already contains. On the other hand, the Alphabetical List of members of the University has been recast and enlarged so as to show the dates of all Degrees instead of the first Degree Only, and to give a reference to the pages of the volume 011 'which each name occurs. Complete indexes of all Titular Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates of Research have also been added, together with new sections dealing with University Representation, Administration, Legislation, and Finance. Finally, at the end of the volume, a new and fuller index has been provided. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
