This volume presents papers dedicated to Professor Shoshichi Kobayashi, commemorating the occasion of his sixtieth birthday on January 4, 1992.The principal theme of this volume is “Geometry and Analysis on Complex Manifolds”. It emphasizes the wide mathematical influence that Professor Kobayashi has on areas ranging from differential geometry to complex analysis and algebraic geometry. It covers various materials including holomorphic vector bundles on complex manifolds, Kähler metrics and Einstein–Hermitian metrics, geometric function theory in several complex variables, and symplectic or non-Kähler geometry on complex manifolds. These are areas in which Professor Kobayashi has made strong impact and is continuing to make many deep invaluable contributions.

This book presents in a systematic and almost self-contained way the striking analogy between classical function theory, in particular the value distribution theory of holomorphic curves in projective space, on the one hand, and important and beautiful properties of the Gauss map of minimal surfaces on the other hand. Both theories are developed in the text, including many results of recent research. The relations and analogies between them become completely clear. The book is written for interested graduate students and mathematicians, who want to become more familiar with this modern development in the two classical areas of mathematics, but also for those, who intend to do further research on minimal surfaces.

Sufficient conditions are obtained for the continuity of renormalized self-intersection local times for the multiple intersections of a large class of strongly symmetric L vy processes in $R DEGREESm$, $m=1,2$. In $R DEGREES2$ these include Brownian motion and stable processes of index greater than 3/2, as well as many processes in their domains of attraction. In $R DEGREES1$ these include stable processes of index $3/4

This title examines the equivariant e-theory for c*-algebra, focusing on research carried out by Higson and Kasparov. Let A and B be C*-algebras which are equipped with continuous actions of a second countable, locally compact group G. We define a notion of equivariant asymptotic morphism, and use it to define equivariant E-theory groups EULG(A, B) which generalize the E-theory groups of Connes and Higson. We develop the basic properties of equivariant E-theory, including a composition product and six-term exact sequences in both variables, and apply our theory to the problem of calculating K-theory for group C*-algebras. Our main theorem gives a simple criterion for the assembly map of Baum and Connes to be an isomorphism. The result plays an important role in the work of Higson and Kasparov on the Bau m-Connes conjecture for groups which act isometrically and metrically properly on Hilbert space
