This monograph reports on a study of differences between school in retention rates in the government high schools of Victoria. It involves analysis of official data for all high schools, and both qualitative and quantitative studies in a sample of 16 schools. The study suggests that curriculum and organisational features of schools can effect retention rates beyond the influence of the environment in which the school is located.
