All Lands – a Christian Enigma

Book Description

For me, the best science fiction stories happen when there are two or three assumptions made concerning the future, space, etc., and then the author sets out to see where these assumptions might lead in a way that is entertaining yet remains true to the initial assumptions and our physical universe. Many of the books I have read dealt with strange and fantastical life forms, and the stories have developed elaborate societies, customs and even religions often at variance with my own beliefs. In short, too many science fiction authors seem to be stuck in an agnostic or atheistic realm of thinking. Some time ago, I began to wonder where my own, Christian based assumptions might lead me as we begin to journey out into the universe. Soon my imagination took over. I created the first few characters, started to write, and began a wonderful science fiction journey of discovery. I found the journey to be at once enlightening, entertaining, and enjoyable. I hope you will as well

Spinegrinder

Book Description

First came video and more recently high definition home entertainment, through to the internet with its streaming videos and not strictly legal peer-to-peer capabilities. With so many sources available, today’s fan of horror and exploitation movies isn’t necessarily educated on paths well-trodden — Universal classics, 1950s monster movies, Hammer — as once they were. They may not even be born and bred on DAWN OF THE DEAD. In fact, anyone with a bit of technical savvy (quickly becoming second nature for the born-clicking generation) may be viewing MYSTICS IN BALI and S.S. EXPERIMENT CAMP long before ever hearing of Bela Lugosi or watching a movie directed by Dario Argento. In this world, H.G. Lewis, so-called “godfather of gore,” carries the same stripes as Alfred Hitchcock, “master of suspense.” SPINEGRINDER is one man’s ambitious, exhaustive and utterly obsessive attempt to make sense of over a century of exploitation and cult cinema, of a sort that most critics won’t care to write about. One opinion; 8,000 reviews (or thereabouts.

James III

Book Description

James III is the most enigmatic of the Stewart kings of Scotland. Variously characterised as artistic, peace-loving, morbidly suspicious, treacherous, pious, lecherous and lazy, King James was much criticised by contemporaries and later chroniclers for his failure to do his job in the manner expected of him, and particularly for his reliance on low-born favourites to the exclusion of his 'natural' counsellors, the nobility. Specific complaints included debasement of the coinage, royal hoarding of money, failure to staunch feuds and to enforce criminal justice. Yet James III has also been seen as a major patron of the arts, as Scotland's first Renaissance king, and as the architect of an intelligent and forward-looking foreign policy. In this new study, the author explores all these areas and seeks to explain why King James was challenged by a huge rebellion in 1482, which he narrowly survived, and why he succumbed to a further rising in 1488, which placed his eldest son on the throne as James IV.
