Serving as the official text of the A/ A/, the Equinox Volume 1 has proven an elusive addition to the occultist's library. With only a few printings available in over one hundred years, copies of this text fetch upward of $2,000 per book. Now, this text is available at an affordable price. Unedited, and unabridged, this printing contains all the original text and images (B&W) released in the original 1909 printing by Crowley himself. Only now, it is in paperback, and within reach of ownership. (Hardcover available by Spring 2014). The editor and publisher have made no attempt to add to this work in any manner. There is no need for improvement, as these works stand as classics in occult literature even today. The Equinox (subtitle: "The Review of Scientific Illuminism") is a series of publications in book form that serves as the official organ of the A/ A/, a magical order founded by Aleister Crowley (although material is often of import to its sister organization, Ordo Templi Orientis). Begun in 1909, it mainly features articles about occultism and magick, while several issues also contain poetry, fiction, plays, artwork, and biographies. Along with his written works, Aleister Crowley's legacy includes the organization he is credited with founding, the OTO or Ordo Templi Orientis -- The Order of Oriental Templars. This book contains key introductory material to this contemporary occult society, along with a history of the Order after Crowley's death. The format of this edition matches that of the first Equinox series published with Crowley as editor and includes magical instruction, communications to OTO members (all the dirt on court cases the OTO has been involved in), and original works of fiction and poetry. As part of this latter category, this book features an illustrated study of the works of underground filmmaker Kenneth Anger with a complete filmography. It could be argued that Aleister Crowley (1875-1947) anticipated the entire New Age phenomenon with his methods of teaching, codified in the tenets of the OTO. A rich melange of ritual magic, traditional spiritual practice, drug use, and sex, borrowing from many different cultures and traditions, informed the development of this lasting magical system. Although he's been popularized (and demonized) as The Beast, 666, his teachings have shown lasting value.

In March 1909, Aleister Crowley began production of The Equinox, a biannual periodical that Crowley described as "the Review of Scientific Illuminism." The Equinox publication, Winged Beetles, is a collection of poems by Crowley intended to facilitate that illumination.

The Equinox: Keep Silence Edition, Vol. 1, No. 6 Aleister Crowley's The Equinox: The Review of Scientific Illuminism. "The Encyclopedia of Occultism." This edition based on new scans from a copy of the 1909 first edition. All of the images used to create this book were created by taking scans of a first edition copy and then digitally enhancing the black ink and removing the paper texture from the background. The images printed in half-tone were run through a special descreening process to remove the moiré patterns. Digital edition available at https: //keepsilence.org/the-equinox
