Fundamentals of Agriculture (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Fundamentals of Agriculture Every subject 1n this book 1s written by an expert in his line. This idea was carried out in order to furnish the student with the best information that could be oh tained. The editor thought it would be better to have authorities treat of the various topics rather than write the book alone, as there are very few men who are competent enough to warrant their writing the best text book on agriculture. A 11st of bulletins and reference books 1s appended at the end of each chapter. The teacher should send for the bulletins (which can be had free of charge) some time before the particular subject 13 assigned, in order that fuller information may be offered to the students than 1s included 1n the text. The teacher should endeavor to present the subjects in season, and not necessarily in the order they are given, so that field trips may be taken to impress the topic or topics on the student's mind and to excite in terest. In propounding questions to the class original ity should predominate. At the end of most sections a few questions are asked to give the teacher an idea of what 1s required. Field experiments should be con ducted, and the text should be followed only to furnish the student with the principles or working knowledge. First Principles of Agriculture (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from First Principles of Agriculture The purpose of this book is to state in logical order the elementary principles of scientific agriculture, and to show the relation of these scientific facts to farm practice. The need of such a book has been strongly felt by the author in his work as a teacher, not only of college students, but of those already engaged in farming. His experience, both as a practical farmer and as a teacher of the theory and application of agricultural science, leads him to believe that the principles and relations of scientific agriculture, if set forth clearly and in a scientific manner, can be successfully taught in our country district schools. It is here that such education must begin, if it is to reach and influence the mass of farmers, upon Whom rests the chief burden of irrational practice, and through Whom must come any direct pro gress in the true development of the farming industry. Elementary Agriculture (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Elementary Agriculture Elementary Agriculture is an attempt to utilize the social values of farm life as educative material; it aims to make country boys and girls love farm life, not only because this life is worthy and wholesome, but because farming, if directed by a trained mind, is a most interesting and profitable calling. This book places the emphasis on doing something as a home exercise or project, both for its educational and for its material value; it aims to correlate with farm life, when possible, such related subjects as arithmetic, history, literature, geography and the sciences generally; and it gives pointed suggestions at the end of each chapter for practical and productive work. First Principles of Agriculture

Book Description

Excerpt from First Principles of Agriculture In the preparation of this elementary work upon the Principles of Agriculture, the author has been desirous of avoiding, as far as possible, the use of technical terms, in cases where other terms in general use would convey the same idea. When it has been necessary to employ such terms, they have been explained in the simplest possible manner, so as to render the book intelligible to all classes of readers. Although the work is strictly elementary, the author has considered it desirable to draw attention to certain points in practice and in theory, which seem to be insufficiently recognized by many of our practical and scientific agriculturists. Preface To The Second Edition. The rapid sale of a large edition, and the favourable opinions which have been expressed of its utility, encourage the hope that the "First Principles of Agriculture" has not only been found useful for pupils under instruction in the elementary stage of Agricultural Science, but of value to those who desire to inform themselves on the subject. The alterations which have been made in the Second Edition will probably increase its utility. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
