The Essentials of Commercial Law

Book Description

Excerpt from The Essentials of Commercial Law: Prepared for the Use of Schools and Colleges The object of this treatise is to supply the long-felt need of a work on business law, which would be concise, and at the same time as nearly complete as it is possible in treating of a subject upon which so much can be written without exhausting it. The work is intended as a text-book for schools in which Commercial Law is systematically taught, and it is hoped that the manner of treating the different divisions of the subject will be found so plain and simple that the student will be able to master the subject matter of every page without difficulty, with the aid of a competent teacher, which from the very nature of the subject will be found necessary for a full and complete understanding of many of the intricate points involved in this branch of the law. In this, a want of many text-books of a like nature has been supplied, by giving extracts from the statutes of the different States relative to some of the most important branches of Commercial Law. The treatise is not exhaustive, but is sufficiently comprehensive to give the student a thorough and practical knowledge of business law, such as is requisite in business affairs. The following works have been frequently consulted and in each case due credit has been given to the authority quoted: Parsons' On Contracts; Blacks tone's Commentaries; Smith's Mercantile Law; Kent's Commentaries; and Parsons' Laws of Business. The Essentials of Business Law (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from The Essentials of Business Law This book has not been written for lawyers, nor for professional students of the law, but for boys and girls in our secondary schools. Its purpose is to show how the rules of law, governing ordinary business transactions, have been developed, and to tell what they are. Technical law terms have been discarded as far as possible. When they have been used, care has been taken to explain and illustrate their meaning, so as to render them easily intel ligible to every attentive student. The author believes that the average high-school boy or girl can acquire an accurate knowledge of the essential principles of business law if these are set forth in clear, lucid, popular language. He has endeavored so to present them in the following pages. He has no idea that a mas tery of this book will fit the student for a bar' examination, or will enable him to be his own lawyer. He has the con viction, however, that it will give the student a fair ao quaintance with those legal principles and ideas which are involved in ordinary business affairs, and that it will help him to know when he ought to consult a lawyer, in order to avoid business pitfalls. Commercial Law (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Commercial Law The author of this work has aimed to select from the exten sive field of the law those fundamental principles, a knowledge of which the business man will most frequently find of value to him, and which the teacher of Commercial Law will regard most useful to his classes. It is not the purpose of this volume to make lawyers of its readers, but to teach them to discern the ways that lead from litigation, and to enable them to conduct their business dealings with an intelligent idea of their legal rights and limitations. Technical terms have been avoided as far as possible, and when it has been thought advisable to use them they have been fully defined either in the text or in the glossary. The latter contains a most complete list of the legal terms ordinarily em ployed, with concise yet sufficient definition. The subjects discussed have been arranged in the order in which it is deemed advisable for the teacher to present them. It is believed that all of the subjects with which the business man should become familiar have been included in the present volume, and are explained with sufficient detail to give the reader a correct knowledge of the law concerning them. In many instances different conclusions that have been arrived at by the courts in the several states have been pointed out in detail, that the student may understand the conflicts in the laws of the different jurisdictions. A Text Book of Commercial Law, as Existing in California (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from A d104 Book of Commercial Law, as Existing in California In law, more than in any other science, originality is not to be attained. Every principle in this book has been stated before, and perhaps stated better than it is here. The standard text-writers have been liberally con sultedfi Kent's Commentaries, Smith's Mercantile Law, Parson on Con tracts, and the California Codes, have been most freely referred to. The arrangement, the presentation of each subject, and the statement of principles are, however, new, and whatever of merit there may be in these is all that can be claimed for this book. The Elements of Commercial Law

Book Description

Excerpt from The Elements of Commercial Law: Containing a Concise and Logical Exposition of the Rules Relating to Business Transactions; A Practical d104-Book for Use in Schools This book has been prepared in response to a demand among commercial high schools, business colleges and other institutions where business branches are taught, for a text of quite moderate size and cost, which shall fairly exhaust the more important branches and topics of commercial law. The aim has therefore been to develop quite fully the topics of greatest commercial interest and importance in all localities, and to condense or entirely omit such subjects as are of minor importance or of local interest. Pains have been taken to make the statements of law brief, but at the same time clear and accurate, and to present the several topics in logical and convenient order. It is hoped that the book will readily commend itself to intelligent commercial teachers, who will require no prompting from the author to enable them to put it to excellent use.
