Brady's Book of Fixed Stars

Book Description

A richly detailed, in-depth look at fixed stars and their role in affecting astrological predictions. Since prehistory, humanity has been held in thrall by the night sky, captivated by the mystery of the stars. Seeking to make sense of such a magical overhead landscape, people used the stars to relate beliefs, creation stories, and mythologies. And just as the fixed stars have ancient origins in human life, their astrological interpretations get right to the heart of our lives. Celebrated astrologer Bernadette Brady melds modern astrological techniques with Egyptian and early Greek mythology to bring astrologers to a deeper understanding of the horoscope and provides delineations for using fixed stars in chart interpretation. Her methods open a window on the fixed stars, revealing how a major star in a person’s chart indicates the stage of life in which it is active and how it affirms the person’s life journey through the mythology that the star represents. Though the fixed stars have been watched and studied for all of human history, Brady’s Book of Fixed Stars continues to be the astrological bible for how to use them in practice. This is an essential resource that should be on every astrologer’s bookshelf. The book includes Paran maps, star maps, star phases, and mythologies for over sixty stars, New insights into the natal use of fixed stars, as well as their use in mundane astrology, Extensive appendices of graphs and tables to help astrologers find rising or setting dates for any given location, And a listing of 176 stars with their 21st-century positions. Originally published by Weiser Books in 1999, this Weiser Classics edition includes a new foreword by Chloe Margherita.

Fixed Stars and Their Interpretation

Book Description

The basis for this book was a publication by Elsbeth Ebertin entitled Sternenwandel und Weltgeschehen. It contained cases of her own investigations and records. Her son, Reinhold Ebertin, and Georg Hoffman, Elsbeth's coworker, edited the text and added many new sources of information. Like Ptolemy's astronomical handbook, Almagest, this is the basis for much of the current information on fixed stars. Modern astrologers recognized that fixed stars carry an influence into the horoscope if conjunction a natal planet by longitude and even more so if by latitude. A prominent star on the Ascendant or Midheaven is said to be an indication of recognition achieved in the lifetime. The character of the star indicates the kind of influence the aspect will have. This book contains 73 major stars and describes their essential nature.

Postcolonial Astrology

Book Description

Tapping into the political power of magic and astrology for social, community, and personal transformation. In a cross-cultural approach to understanding astrology as a magical language, Alice Sparkly Kat unmasks the political power of astrology, showing how it can be channeled as a force for collective healing and liberation. Too often, magic and astrology are divorced from their potency and cultural contexts: co-opted by neoliberalism, used as a force of oppression, or distilled beyond recognition into applications that belie their individual and collective power. By looking at the symbolic and etymological histories of the sun, moon, Saturn, Venus, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter, we can trace and understand the politics of magic--and challenge our own practices, interrogate our truths, and reshape our institutions to build better frameworks for communities of care. Fearless, radical, and fresh, Sparkly Kat's Postcolonial Astrology ushers in a new wave of astrology revival, refusing to apologize for its magickism and connecting its power to the spirituality and politics we need now. Intersectional, inclusive, and geared towards queer and POC communities, it uses our historical and collective constructs of the planets, sun, and moon to re-chart our subconscious history, redefine the body in the world, and assert our politics of the personal, in astrology and all things.

This star is connected to the story of Phaeton who, overestimating his powers, tried to steer the solar chariot through the heavens, lost control and came down in flames. In the chart of Nicolai Tesla, unsurpassed genius in electrical design and invention, the Sun is on the fixed star Castor on the IC; Castor is the dying brother of the famous heavenly twins Castor and Pollux. Aspects in Astrology

Book Description

Illustrates how aspects can offer a profound depiction of an individual and his or her destiny. • Contains comprehensive sections full of interpretations for every planetary combination. • Concepts are explained through the use of actual birth charts and diagrams. • A core textbook at the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London. Aspects are an essential piece of the astrological puzzle when it comes to interpreting and using the information that astrology can give us. Aspects describe the drama of our lives--the complex configurations that influence what will happen to us over time. Sue Tompkins, a fellow of the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London, shows how to interpret aspects when doing daily astrological readings. She uses the lives of real people to plot the aspects and offers examples of every possible planetary combination. Detailing the influence of oppositions, trines and elemental trines, and cardinal, mutable, and fixed crosses, Tompkins shows how aspects provide the energy in the chart that transforms the horoscope into something symbolizing an alive and vital human being. With Aspects in Astrology, Tompkins provides both the novice and the experienced astrologer the evidence and concrete methods needed to grasp the vast knowledge offered to us by our horoscope.
