Lactarius of the Dominican Republic and Belize


Book Description

The taxonomic identification and discussion of species of Lactarius collected from the Dominican Republic and Belize are presented. Specimens were obtained from multiple field expeditions into the Dominican Republic and Belize as part of a larger biodiversity survey of tropical macrofungi. Field observations, photography, macroscopic and microscopic analysis, and reference to related taxonomic literature on the genus were used in identifying the collected specimens. Included are descriptions, discussions, photographs, and a taxonomic key of the 17 taxa identified in this investigation. Provisionally, three new species and two new varieties of Lactarius are described and proposed as a result of this investigation. These newly determined taxa of Lactarius, all from Belize, are as follows: L. acrisubzonas, L. hygrophoroides var. cystidiomoniliformus, L. salmoneus var. beliziensis, L. striatulis, and L strigosa.
