Chiefly a history of the descendents of Thomas Hastings. He was married twice. His first wife was Susannah who died 2 Feb 1650 and his second wife was Margaret Cheney of Roxbury. He and his wife Susannah came to America 10 Apr 1634 from England. He and Margaret were married 10 Apr 1651 and were the parents of eight children. He died in 1685. Descendents lived mostly in Massachusetts.

Excerpt from Henry Hastings Sibley: A Memoir Gentry. Is one of that large class of Saxon names de rived from localities or places. Lower, in his Patro nymica Britannica, traces the name back to the twelfth century, and quoted one Sibaldus (the Latinized name) as a tenant-in-chief in Northamptonshire, given in the Domesday Book, which was written eight centuries ago. Savage, in his Genealogical Dictionary of the First Set tlers of New England, states that John Sibley (spelled also Sebley and Sybley in early records) came over in 1629, and settled at Salem. From this ancestor all the Sibley family in America have sprung. The name, how ever, is not a common one, either in this country or in England. A genealogy of the family in America is in preparation. Solomon Sibley (father of H. H.) was born at Sutton, Mass. Oct. 7, 1769. He studied law and re moved to Ohio in 1795, establishing himself first at Mari etta and subsequently at Cincinnati in the practice of his profession. He removed to Detroit in 1797, and in 1799 was elected to the first Territorial Legislature of the Northwestern Territory at Cincinnati.
