The Apocrypha

Book Description

THIS BOOK CONTAINS 14PT FONT FOR EASIER READING. (THE AVERAGE BIBLE CONTAINS 6PT FONT LETTERING.) The Biblical apocrypha denotes the collection of ancient books found, in some editions of the Bible, in a separate section between the Old and New Testaments or as an appendix after the New Testament. Although the term apocrypha had been in use since the 5th century, it was in Luther's Bible of 1534 that the Apocrypha was first published as a separate intertestamental section. To this date, the Apocrypha is "included in the lectionaries of Anglican and Lutheran Churches."Moreover, the Revised Common Lectionary, in use by most mainline Protestants including Methodists and Moravians, lists readings from the Apocrypha in the liturgical kalendar, although alternate Old Testament scripture lessons are provided.

Apocrypha

Book Description

2018 Reprint of KJV Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Full title is: The Apocrypha: Translated Out of the Greek and Latin Tongues: Being the Version Set Forth A.D. 1611 Compared with the Most Ancient Authorities and Revised A.D. 1894. This volume reprints the KJV Apocrypha in a single volume. The Apocrypha ('hidden things') are contemporaneous with the Old Testament but were not officially accepted as part of the Bible when the Hebrew 'canon' was set. They did, however, form part of the Greek Scriptures and came into English Bibles by that route. The writings of the Apocrypha run the whole gamut of literary genres: histories, romances, devotional works, proverbs and sermons. Many complement parts of the Old Testament and readers will recognize some familiar Biblical characters in the narratives, such as Daniel and Esther.

The Holy Bible

Book Description

The King James Version (KJV) is an English translation of the Christian Bible for the Church of England begun in 1604 and completed in 1611. The Bible is a canonical collection of texts considered sacred in Judaism and Christianity. There is no single "Bible" and many Bibles with varying contents exist. The term Bible is shared between Judaism and Christianity, although the contents of each of their collections of canonical texts is not the same. Different religious groups include different books within their Biblical canons, in different orders, and sometimes divide or combine books, or incorporate additional material into canonical books.
