Book Description
Excerpt from The Iroquois Trail, Foot-Prints, Six Nations: Customs, Traditions, and History The four hundredth year of European-American history will be marked by many publications recalling early days, and among these the present volume may find a proper place. Cusick's history has been largely quoted in recent years, with too much deference to its authority, but has become so scarce that a reissue seemed desirable. At the same time it seemed well to add a few explanatory notes, out of a vast number collected. The work has been done under some difficulties of arrangement and proof reading, but the important errors have been noted in the list of errata. The author may add that he has long been engaged in antiquarian work relating to the Iroquois and other early inhabitants of New York, and has enjoyed the advantage of long personal acquaintance with the Onondagas. His extended field work, and collation of authorities, has led him to differ from some conclusions of others.
