The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: July, 1917 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: July, 1917 A friend favors us with a communication in which he expresses the Opinion that the Star should not give space to a war chron ology. He says he feels sad when he hears Latter-day Saints take delight in describing victories, as he is Opposed to war. And any thing connected with it. We would say to our friend that his views on this subject are in full accord with the gospel of our Redeemer. He came to the earth as the Prince of Peace, and was hailed at His birth as the bearer of good will to men, and, although the preaching Of His message to the world brought, at first, not peace but the sword, and although this still holds true to some extent, yet the ultimate effect Of the proclamation of that message will be the redemption of the world from hatred, conflict, and bloodshed, and the establishment of the Millennial Brotherhood of Man. The reign of the adversary will be ended and the kingdom of God will prevail. That is the glorious achievement for which the Latter-day Saints are laboring in the world. It is the very purpose for which the Church exists. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79

Book Description

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: March 8, 1917 If all the Latter - day Saint boys and girls are well informed in Scripture reading, if they know the New Testament and the Bible and the Scriptures of the N ephites and the Scriptures of latter times, the revelations through the Prophet Joseph Smith, and so forth, they are well fortified. But let the effort be made to make a better report than we have succeeded in doing in the past in regard to the activities of the Priesthood and of the people. Let us do that. And we want the assistance of our sisters there in, as well of the brethren. We want everyone to have an opportunity, and I believe that there is no excuse for any member of the Priesthood in this Church, or any member of this Church. The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: February 1, 1917 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: February 1, 1917 Mormon, first given in derision as a nickname, was fastened upon the members of the Church. Such a beginning as that of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints may seem to afford little ground of either hope or fear as to future developments; nevertheless, the newly-established Church was made the subject of assault from its inception. What was there to cause hostile concern over the voluntary association of six men and a few of their friends in an organization of Openly expressed purpose, and that purpose the peaceful promulgation of what they verily believed to be the uplifting religion of life, the gospel of Jesus Christ? The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: June 28, 1917 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: June 28, 1917 Man, in his effort to discover the origin of life in plant and animal, has dissected, analyzed, and microscopically examined tissues; he has discovered that with the primary cell is the power to reproduce its kind. He has even named the component parts of the cell; but he is unable to say what exists in the microscopic nucleus that gives to the cell its life. As he contemplates the marvelous possibilities of the fertilized human ovum. He stands helpless at the portal of mortality. He feign would open the door. And peer beyond, but he cannot - to mortal the door is locked. As nature proclaims a Deity, so man, not only by his attainments scientifically, but by his discovered limitation of knowledge and power to do, proclaims himself the connecting link in the great eternal chain of life and progress, between 'a pre-mortal life in time immemorial, and the perpetuation of his existence as an intelligent entity in the countless ages of eternity. He declares his absolute dependence upon both past and future. The Scriptures are replete with evidence of a pre-existence, and that in that state we lived as Spirits. For example, with refer ence to Christ: In the beginning was the 70rd, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God (john 1: Here are the words of Christ, himself And now, 0 Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was (john 17: In the following passage of modern revelation. Christ bears record of His pre-existence and the presence of the hosts of heaven: Thus saith the Lord your God, even Jesus Christ, the Great I Am, Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the same which looked upon the wide expanse of eternity, and all the seraphic hosts of heaven before the world was made (doc. And Cov., Sec. 38: The Apostle Paul bears record that men existed as spirits prior to this earth-life: Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live (heb. 12: Moses and Aaron prayed. The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79

Book Description

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: August 23, 1917 Will those men who go out from Utah, from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, forget their prayers? 7ill they forget God? 7ill they forget the teachings that they have received from their parents at home? Will they forget the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the covenants that they have made in the waters of baptism. And in sacred places? Or will they go out as men, in every sense - pure men, high - minded men, honest men virtuous men, men of God? That is what I am. Anxious about. I want to see the hand of God made manifest in the acts of the men that go out from the ranks of the Church of Jesus Christ and from the state of Utah, to help to defend the principles of liberty and sound government for the human family. I want to see them so live that they can be in communion with the Lord, in their camps, and in their secret places, and that in the midst of battle they can say: Father, my life and my spirit are in thy hand! I want to see the boys that go away from here in this cause. To go feeling just as our missionaries do when sent out into the world, carrying with them the spirit a good mother feels when she parts with her boy, on the morning of his departure for his mission. She embraces him with all the mother's love in her soul. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79

Book Description

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: December 6, 1917 Then I bear testimony again to you, my brethren and sisters, that the foundation of the cause in which we are engaged is the gospel truth, and it is a glorious thing to know that so many and yet so few in comparison to the vast aggregation of humanity - have learned the truth, learned the fact that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation, and that it must of necessity be the truth, for God has never devised error for the redemption of His children, nor for their blessing and ex altation. He has never given to the children of men falsehood and error to lead them back into His presence. The Almighty, in the beginning; never devised a plan for the redemption of His children that was not true, that was not efficacious, that would not be effectual in the accomplishment of His purpose to bring to pass the final exaltation into the kingdom and the enjoyment of His presence, of all His children who would obey His laws and keep His commandments.
