African American Bryan, Texas

Book Description

Bryan was incorporated in 1872, but it would take more than ten years before its African American population was offered schooling. Nothing would come easy for them, but they persevered through hard work, ingenuity and family support. The success of today's generation is a direct result of determined, hardworking pioneers like Dr. Samuel J. Sealey Sr., Bryan's "baby doctor" in the 1930s and '40s, and Dr. William A. Hammond Sr., who opened Bryan's first black hospital and employed many blacks through his business ventures. Learn about the inspiration and guidance provided by the likes of Oliver Wayne Sadberry, an outstanding community leader and principal of Fairview and Washington Elementary. Dr. Oswell Person shares the story of this community's achievements, successes and contributions in the face of incredible odds.

Nashua Area Men and Women in World War II

Book Description

This project began twenty-five years ago when I worked as a stringer for the Nashua Telegraph. The paper hired a number of correspondents at the time to cover local news and events in the small towns around Nashua. I reported on the selectmen’s meetings and the planning board meetings in Mason and Greenville and the Mascenic School Board. The editors encouraged us to write special features about people, places, and events.

We Salute You

Book Description

I have been an advocate for WWII veterans recording their experiences for future generations for many years. I believe generations to come need to know what cost and sacrifice these men and women endured to protect our country and world. They sacrificed years of their lives and many gave their lives for our country. Most veterans look back on their experiences in the military as building blocks for the rest of their lives. I believe that each veteran is a library, and when that veteran is gone, it is like the library is burned.
