The Mining Magazine, Vol. 3

Book Description

Excerpt from The Mining Magazine, Vol. 3: July to December, 1910 At the end of June the shareholders in Globe Phoenix received acircular letter informing them that the mill would cease work for eight weeks pending repairs to the main shaft and at the same time some incomplete information was given concerning current developments in the mines. Meanwhile it is found that this news was known to several market operators several days before the shareholders heard of it and it is noteworthy that no mention is made of the results of exploration on the 17th or deepest level, where it is rumoured results are disappointing. It is eminently desirable that the directors should be reminded that they are trustees for the shareholders, both the minority not represented on the board and the majority controlling-the company. It is, as we have said repeatedly, a serious blemish on Rhode sian mining that cablegrams should be so often cryptic and reports belated, thus afford ing easy opportunity for raids on the part of well informed speculators. The Mining Magazine, Vol. 12

Book Description

Excerpt from The Mining Magazine, Vol. 12: January June, 1915 The press accounts of the raids made by the authorities on the offices of sundry mining companies and metal brokers at Melbourne on November 9 illustrates another phase of the impact of war upon industry. The companies thus subjected to sudden inspection were the Broken Hill Proprietary, Broken Hill South, Mount Lyell, Mount Morgan, together with the Australian Metal Company, Max Gorler, Ltd., and W. S. Robinson of Lionel Robin son, Clark Co. Naturally, this action pro voked surprise and even protest, for most of those named may be assumed to be quite in nocent. Only one official prosecution has re sulted, namely, against F. H. Snow Co. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
