The Holy Spirit in Missions

Book Description

Excerpt from The Holy Spirit in Missions: Six Lectures The following Lectures form one of the courses on Foreign Missions, delivered at New Brunswick, N. J., before the Theological Seminary of the Reformed Church in America, in April, 1892, upon the Graves Foundation. The author of these discourses is less inclined to call attention to his own work than to commend the wise and well-directed beneficence of the eminent Christian layman, Mr. Nathan F. Graves, of Syracuse, N. Y., who has provided for an annual presentation of this great theme before one of the theological schools of our country. May the blessing of God so rest upon his noble provision that it shall be the means of giving a constant and enduring impulse to the divine enterprise of the world's evangelization. The Holy Spirit and Mission Dynamics

Book Description

Over the past decade, there have been few forums in which the controversial subject of this book could be openly discussed. During the 1994 and 1996 annual conferences of the Evangelical Missiological Society this subject was a central topic of discourse. These ten chapters represent an attempt to reflect the concerns and present understanding of evangelical missiologists on the Holy Spirit and mission dynamics.

The Person and Ministry of the Holy Spirit (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from The Person and Ministry of the Holy Spirit While the writer was evangelizing in Europe, he received a letter from his friend, A. C. Dixon, of Baltimore, requesting his help in organizing and supervising a Conference in that city. On my return home Mr. Dixon visited me, and together we sketched the programme of the subjects, nominated speakers, and arranged concerning dates and details. On Mr. Dixon's return to Baltimore he consulted with the pastors, who, with him, formed a committee to prosecute the work in the city. To this earnest committee is due, under God, the great success which crowned the Convention. The pleasant task of correspondence with speakers and adjustment of subjects fell to my lot, as on other similar occasions. Many brethren, originally appointed to present the subjects, were detained in various ways, but others cheerfully undertook the office of teacher. The promise, "Them that honour Me I will honour," sustained our faith, and God permitted our ears to hear marvelous things throughout this four days' meeting. The Ministry of the Spirit

Book Description

The Ministry of the Spirit

Book Description

Roland Allen is internationally renowned for his controversial solutions to dilemmas within churches and missions. His works were first written in the first decade of the twentieth century, yet their ideas are so radical that they are still relevanttoday. Indeed, Allen predicted that his principles would not be broadly accepted until around fifty years after their creation. This selection of works by this mission pioneer and creative thinker takes extracts from Allen's other writings, which although having potential to be just as influential as those better known, have long been out of print. It is now the present-day reader's chance to investigate the theories within texts such as: Pentecost and the World, Non-Professional Missionaries, Mission Activities Considered in Relation to the Manifestation of the Spirit, St. Paul and the Judaizers: A Dialogue, An Illustration from V.S. Azariah, The Case for Voluntary Clergy and To the Parishioners of Chalfont St. Peter. Throughout all of these writings is Allen's central belief that the Holy Spirit is in the Church everywhere. This selection of texts makes an ideal accompaniment to Allen's significant works on missionary methods and principles, including: Missionary Methods: St Paul's or Ours?; Missionary Principles; The Spontaneous Expansion of the Church all of which have been reprinted by The Lutterworth Press
