The RFID Roadmap: The Next Steps for Europe

Book Description

RFID is a key technology for Europe. Today there is a noticeable shift away from the days of RFID pilot projects, and towards a time where organisations are looking to RFID to drive efficiency and innovation. Although Europe is a leading player in the world of RFID technology, several challenges which are preventing RFID from reaching its full potential need to be addressed. To further the advancement of this technology, coordinated European efforts need to be promoted, specifically in the areas of standardisation, user guidelines, legislation, technology development, and research and development. These themes have been analysed, and clear recommendations have been derived, stating what the different RFID stakeholders can do to support the technology. This book is aimed at decision makers in all fields of society, e.g. in companies, politics, business associations, etc. The publication is a summary of the results of the coordination action CE RFID - "Coordinating European Efforts in the RFID Value Chain" - and is a network of European RFID technology providers, vendors and end users. It aims at promoting the use of RFID technology and supporting further development. The project was funded by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Programme.

Electromagnetic Wave Propagation for Industry and Biomedical Applications

Book Description

This book highlights original research and high-quality technical briefs on electromagnetic wave propagation, radiation, and scattering, and their applications in industry and biomedical engineering. It also presents recent research achievements in the theoretical, computational, and experimental aspects of electromagnetic wave propagation, radiation, and scattering. The book is divided into three sections. Section 1 consists of chapters with general mathematical methods and approaches to the forward and inverse problems of wave propagation. Section 2 presents the problems of wave propagation in superconducting materials and porous media. Finally, Section 3 discusses various industry and biomedical applications of electromagnetic wave propagation, radiation, and scattering.

Enterprise Interoperability

Book Description

This book constitutes the proceedings of the Third International IFIP Working Conference on Enterprise Interoperability (IWEI 2011) , held in Stockholm, Sweden, March 23-24, 2011. The special theme chosen for IWEI 2011 was “Interoperability and Future Internet for Next-Generation Enterprises”. Thus special attention was given to how the interoperability needs of enterprises will be shaped and supported by the emerging Future Internet. The 15 papers presented in this volume were carefully selected from 47 submissions, based on a thorough reviewing process in which each paper was scrutinized by at least three experts in the field. The papers cover a wide spectrum of enterprise interoperability issues, ranging from foundational theories, frameworks, architectures, methods and guidelines to applications and case studies. This volume also includes the abstracts of the two invited talks on challenges for future networked enterprise systems.

Advanced Manufacturing Technology in China: A Roadmap to 2050

Book Description

As one of the eighteen field-specific reports comprising the comprehensive scope of the strategic general report of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, this sub-report addresses long-range planning for developing science and technology in the field of advanced manufacturing technology. They each craft a roadmap for their sphere of development to 2050. In their entirety, the general and sub-group reports analyze the evolution and laws governing the development of science and technology, describe the decisive impact of science and technology on the modernization process, predict that the world is on the eve of an impending S&T revolution, and call for China to be fully prepared for this new round of S&T advancement. Based on the detailed study of the demands on S&T innovation in China’s modernization, the reports draw a framework for eight basic and strategic systems of socio-economic development with the support of science and technology, work out China’s S&T roadmaps for the relevant eight basic and strategic systems in line with China’s reality, further detail S&T initiatives of strategic importance to China’s modernization, and provide S&T decision-makers with comprehensive consultations for the development of S&T innovation consistent with China’s reality. Supported by illustrations and tables of data, the reports provide researchers, government officials and entrepreneurs with guidance concerning research directions, the planning process, and investment. Founded in 1949, the Chinese Academy of Sciences is the nation’s highest academic institution in natural sciences. Its major responsibilities are to conduct research in basic and technological sciences, to undertake nationwide integrated surveys on natural resources and ecological environment, to provide the country with scientific data and consultations for government’s decision-making, to undertake government-assigned projects with regard to key S&T problems in the process of socio-economic development, to initiate personnel training, and to promote China’s high-tech enterprises through its active engagement in these areas.
