The Rights of Great Britain Asserted Against the Claims of America

Book Description

Excerpt from The Rights of Great Britain Asserted Against the Claims of America: Being an Answer to the Declaration of the General Congress The materials upon which the following Pamphlet is formed, were derived from the best and most incontestible authorities. The Author had access to original papers, accurate estimates, and authentic dispatches. He has also availed himself of the records of both Houses of Parliament; and he has made it his business to examine, with attention, such printed tracts as might contribute to throw any light on the subject. Upon the whole, more labour and time have been employed on this short disquisition, than are generally bestowed upon fugitive Publications of the same kind. The design of the Writer has been to extricate the contest now subsisting between Great-Britain and her Colonies, from the errors of the ignorant, and the misrepresentations of designing men. As he has rigidly adhered to truth throughout, and to such arguments as naturally arise from undoubted facts, he hopes arise from undoubted facts, he hopes he has attained his object.
