The Sundance Kid Died of Old Age in San Diego

Book Description

Readers of this Western novel will meet a flesh-and-blood Sundance Kid and the previously mysterious Etta Place during the dangers, thrills, and wanderings they experienced as well as the lifelong love they shared. From Old West days to post-WW II San Diego this novel follows Harry Longbaugh, The Sundance Kid, from childhood into old age. Etta Place, the Southern beauty who rode at his side, recounts their activities before they establish a livestock ranch in Argentina, their robbery spree in South America, and sidekick Butch Cassidy's leaving to roam alone. Etta relates how she and Sundance acquired guns and stole federal payrolls for rebel leader Emiliano Zapata during the Mexican Revolution and moved on to new adventures in wide-open Tijuana and nearby San Diego during Prohibition. This story is Etta's testimony and deposition that the shootout in which Sundance and Butch were alleged to have been killed never happened.

Hollywood Stunt Performers, 1910s-1970s

Book Description

This biographical dictionary shines the spotlight on several hundred unheralded stunt performers who created some of the cinema's greatest action scenes without credit or recognition. The time period covered encompasses the silent comedy days of Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd, the early westerns of Tom Mix and John Wayne, the swashbucklers of Douglas Fairbanks, Errol Flynn, and Burt Lancaster, the costume epics of Charlton Heston and Kirk Douglas, and the action films of Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood, and Charles Bronson. Without stuntmen and women working behind the scenes the films of these action superstars would not have been as successful. Now fantastic athletes and leading stunt creators such as Yakima Canutt, Richard Talmadge, Harvey Parry, Allen Pomeroy, Dave Sharpe, Jock Mahoney, Chuck Roberson, Polly Burson, Bob Morgan, Loren Janes, Dean Smith, Hal Needham, Martha Crawford, Ronnie Rondell, Terry Leonard, and Bob Minor are given their proper due. Each entry covers the performer's athletic background, military service, actors doubled, noteworthy stunts, and a rundown of his or her best known screen credits.

The Murder of Cara Knott

Book Description

Three decades after a murder that shook the city of San Diego to its core, residents and visitors are still reminded of the tragic slaying each time they drive down Interstate 15. Near Mercy Road, where 20 year old San Diego State junior Cara Knott was killed in 1986, hangs a sign that reads "Knott Memorial Bridge." The killing was difficult enough for the community to swallow - a young, beautiful woman, full of potential, never even lives to see her college graduation. But what made the murder even more horrifying was the arrest that soon followed. California Highway Patrol officer Craig Peyer, who had pulled the student over as she'd been driving home, was charged with killing Cara Knott.
