There Is Only You Beholding You

Book Description

In There is Only You Beholding You the authors explore the way toward true self-discovery. For those who have been conditioned to adhere to a set of religious and cultural expectations and yet find them lacking in meaning and true value, this book provides both inspiration and practical applications toward a more meaningful path. Informed by his deep and diverse experience as a Franciscan friar, Catholic priest, missionary in Brazil, and clinical psychologist, Leenerts shares how he achieved a sense of peace within himself, and a greater awareness of what is truly meaningful in life beyond what he was conditioned to believe. He shares ideas and ways to make this happen for you in your own life. Informed by A Course in Miracles, the works of Gerald G. Jampolsky, Wayne Dyer, and Marianne Williamson, There is Only You Beholding You holds its place within this company as an essential work in the psychological-spiritual field.

Be Holding

Book Description

Be Holding is a love song to legendary basketball player Julius Erving—known as Dr. J—who dominated courts in the 1970s and ‘80s as a small forward for the Philadelphia ‘76ers, as well as over his career in both the NBA and ABA. But this book-length poem is more than just an ode to a magnificent athlete. Through a kind of lyric research, or lyric meditation, Ross Gay connects Dr. J’s famously impossible move from the 1980 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers to pick-up basketball and the flying Igbo and the Middle Passage, to photography and surveillance and state violence, to music and personal histories of flight and familial love. Be Holding wonders how the imagination, or how our looking, might make us, or bring us, closer to each other. How our looking might make us reach for each other. And might make us be reaching for each other. And how that reaching might be something like joy.

Behold It Is I

Book Description

The Catholic Faith begins and ends with Jesus Christ, culminating in the Eucharist as its Source and Summit. "Behold, it is I," Jesus says, and the faithful believe. Examining these words of Jesus, Fr. George Elliott and Dr. Stacy Trasancos provide some of the most convincing proofs for the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist from Scripture, Tradition, and the scientific investigation of Eucharistic miracles. In three sections, they walk readers through: A holistic and contextual reading of the Bible which points to the words of Christ at the Last Supper: "This is my body," and "This is my blood," How the Church Fathers handed on the teachings of the Apostles to the early Church in the centuries following Christ's earthly ministry, How the data from the investigation of Eucharistic miracles begs the ultimate question of the certainty of faith. Do we need Eucharistic miracles to prove that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist? Should our certainty of faith be contingent upon Eucharistic miracles? The reader may be joyfully surprised at where the journey of this book will lead you, from the burning faith of the saints all the way back to Christ in the Gospels. It plainly sets forth the reality that the Eucharist is the Body of Christ. Just as in Biblical times, Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is not a ghost and not a myth, but flesh and bone, hands and feet. "Behold," He said, "It is I."

World War Ii Remembrance

Book Description

He was from Tennessee, and she was from Wisconsin. They would meet in 1943 at March AFB in Southern California where he was stationed in the Army, and she worked as a civilian draftsman. After their love blossomed and the romance deepened, my dad was shipped overseas to be a part of the Allies’ invasion of Europe. He eventually lands on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. It was a rough day for all who landed there, many of whom did not return home. Like so many other young couples of that “Greatest Generation,” Brown and Helen kept their love alive through love letters. The letters were written as often as possible, and each letter was eagerly anticipated. The letters give a glimpse into their feelings without always knowing what is really going on inside their hearts and minds. As their daughter, I believe this was a true love story that endured and produced a family for the ages. The second section of the book, letters to parents and friends, deals more with details about what was happening in the world and at home. He still couldn’t say where he was stationed. Sometimes Luxembourg, sometimes somewhere in Europe. But all correspondence comes to halt when he arrives back home and prepares for the wedding they have both been dreaming of. It took place at the first Methodist Church in Appleton, Wisconsin on Sunday, November 25, 1945.
