Excerpt from Thirty-Fifth Annual Report of the Board of Public Works, to the Governor of the State of Ohio: For the Year 1873 The Board, in company with the Resident Engineer, John W. Erwin, early in May last, made their annual inspection trip over this canal, and found the whole line, between Cincinnati and Toledo, ln good navigable condition. Considerable dredging had been done, and the necessary repairs, to prepare the canal for the season's business, had been comple ted. Through navigation commenced early in April, and, continued throughout the season, save for a few weeks in June, when the water was drawn off the southern portion for the purpose of making necessary repairs.
