The unforgettable story of everyone’s favorite giant—and a life cut short—wrestler and actor Andre the Giant. At seven-foot-five, four hundred and fifty pounds, André the Giant was a living, breathing legend—a behemoth taking on all comers. Billed as “the Eighth Wonder of the World,” he was the greatest attraction in sports entertainment and one of the most famous athletes in the world. André the Giant: A Legendary Life is the story of how his enormous charisma and undeniable presence aided World Wrestling Federation's explosive rise to the forefront of popular culture. André's battles with such rivals as Ernie Ladd, Killer Khan, Big John Studd, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and Randy “Macho Man” Savage are certifiable classics, while his epic WrestleMania III match with Hulk Hogan—before 93,000—still holds the record for largest attendance. Outside the ring, André Roussimoff was equally formidable—his voluminous appetite for life is the stuff of legends. Moreover, André was among the first wrestlers to cross over into pop superstardom with roles in such television series as The Six Million Dollar Man and films like The Princess Bride. André's incredible tale is told through his most memorable matches, with reminiscences and recollections from the people closest to him. In addition to blow-by-blow analysis of his greatest in-ring triumphs, author Michael Krugman takes us behind the curtain to see how this amazing athlete struggled with his size and his stardom, as well as his fight with crippling pain caused by both his profession and the disease that made him who he was. André the Giant: A Legendary Life is the true-life tall tale of one of the most influential and adored Superstars in sports entertainment history.

This book focuses on the imaginative character of Puritan writing, especially as revealed through the use of biblical images and themes. Knott illustrates the richness and power of the best Puritan writing by analyzing the work of five writers: Richard Sibbes, Richard Baxter, Gerrard Winstanley, John Milton, and John Bunyan. Although these writers differ from one another in many important respects, together they illustrate the range of responses to the Bible among those who in one way or another resisted the versions or orthodoxy imposed by the Anglican Church. The chapters on Sibbes, Baxter, and Winstanley implicitly make a case for considering these writers as part of the canon of seventeenth-century literature: Sibbes because he exemplifies the best qualities of spiritual preaching (as opposed to the witty or metaphysical preaching of John Donne); Baxter because his Saints Everlasting Rest, one of the most influential works in its time, offers a compelling statement on some of the central themes of Puritan spirituality; and Winstanley because his visionary prose offers perhaps the most vivid and powerful statement of the millenarian expectations rampant in mid-seventeenth-century England. The book concludes with chapters on two major figures of the era, Milton and Bunyan. In his consideration of Milton, Knott challenges the predominant critical emphasis on Milton's Christian humanism and argues for the importance of Puritan strains in his writing. The analysis of Bunyan draws from the spiritual autobiography Grace Abounding, and from The Holy War, a relatively neglected epic of spiritual life, as well as from The Pilgrim's Progress. These five writers, who make up a chronological sequence reaching from the 1620s to the 1680s, represent different moments in the evolution of a Puritan spirituality. In their distinctive ways they sought to recover the original simplicity of the Word of God and to express its extraordinary power to transform the individual and society.

The Language of Diversity is an orchestrated effort of twenty-eight contributing authors, an editor, and three co-editors across the United States and Canada, and the stellar list includes bestselling authors, scholars, academicians, businessmen, theologians, and healthcare providers. Steeped in the Christian worldview, the twenty-five essays are sectioned off into three areas. Section One is comprised of seven essays, which focus on topics that bridge the gap among racial, cultural, and religious differences in an effort to bring about a greater awareness of human diversity and civil charity. The five essays in Section Two examine interfaith relations among Christians, Muslims, and Mormons respectively. The selections provide a serious examination of the tenets of these faiths and pose many challenges among diverse faith-goers. Section Three entails thirteen essays that challenge readers to stretch behind the comforts of their boundaries to probe topics such as education and race; gender and hiring practices in higher education; the Christian church and race relations; implementation of a nursing practicum with a culturally-diverse perspective; a campaign to train credible business leaders in a global culture; etc.
