Turning Your Scars into Stars

Book Description

Turning Your Scars into Stars is about emotional scars on the heart, spirit, and soul. These types of scars are the most difficult and painful to heal. They consist of abandonment, chronic hurt, pain, rejection, and death. Two verses that comfort me tremendously are Deuteronomy 31:8, which says, The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged (NIV), and also 1 Corinthians 10:13, which says, God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it (NIV). My name is Edith Dolores Roman, and I must be honest and tell you that sometimes when life hit me full force, I felt that the challenges I faced were beyond my ability to overcome! Starting with my childhood, I was orphaned at age eleven, became a foster child, and eventually struggled to raise my two children as a single mother. However, with prayer, persistence, and the strength of God, I was able to overcome, and you are able to also! One more verse that helps me to continue to persevere through my problems is found in 2 Corinthians 12:9, when God reminds his servants, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness (NIV). This book is intended to help people in struggles go from the pit to the peak! My prayer is that this book will help you heal and that it will nurture your soul, just like Proverbs 16:24 says, Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones (NIV).

Your God is Too Glorious

Book Description

Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places. In our day of celebrity worship and online posturing, this is a refreshing, even transformative way of understanding God and our place in his creation. It urges us to treasure a life of simplicity, to love those whom the world passes by, to work for God's glory rather than our own. And it demonstrates that God has always been the Lord of the cross--a Savior who hides his grace in unattractive, inglorious places.Your God Is Too Glorious reminds readers that while a quiet life may look unimpressive to the world, it's the regular, everyday people that God tends to use to do his most important work.

The Rainbow After the Storm

Book Description

"The Rainbow after the Storm tells the story of the rapid liberalization of attitudes toward gay rights that made same-sex marriage the law of the U.S. sooner than almost anyone thought was possible. The book explains how and why public opinion toward gay rights liberalized so much, while most other public attitudes have remained relatively stable. The book explores the roles of a variety of actors in this drama. Social science research helped to shift elite opinion in ways that reduced the persecution of gays and lesbians. Gays and lesbians by the hundreds of thousands responded to a less repressive environment by coming out of the closet. Straight people started to know the gay and lesbian people in their lives, and their view of gay rights shifted accordingly. Same-sex couples embarked on years-long legal struggles to try to force states to recognize their marriages. In courtrooms across the U.S. social scientists behind a new consensus about the normalcy of gay couples and the health of their children won victories over fringe scholars promoting discredited antigay views. In a few short years marriage equality, which had once seemed totally unrealistic, became realistic. And then almost as soon as it was realistic, marriage equality became a reality"--Back cover.
