The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. The role-players were well-developed and authentic. My favorite character was Aisling. She started as a teenager who was bullied and became a fearless and self-assured woman. The story was brilliantly written, and it exceeded my expectations by far. The first-person narration gave a clear view of what went through Aisling's mind with each new challenge. I share Aisling's view that her mother's fixation with witchcraft left her vulnerable and neglected. The smooth transitions from one event to another were easy to follow and provided a basic timeline. The details were vivid, especially with the surroundings in the forest. I could imagine the lush foliage and walking along the paths winding through the trees. The detailed descriptions of the different mythical creatures were fascinating. I really appreciated the author’s craft when it comes to speech and thought presentation, as the up-close narrative lets us get a deeper sense of what’s going on in Aisling’s head and heart as she falls in love, discovers her own powers and becomes a newly-empowered version of her former self. The description of witchcraft and the magical elements of the story were also very cinematically realized and exciting to read about. Overall, I would definitely recommend Aisling: In the Land of Wolves as a promising start to an enthralling fantasy trilogy and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
