Golf Course Management & Construction presents a comprehensive summary and assessment of technical and scientific research on the environmental effects of turfgrass system construction and maintenance. Although the book focuses on golf courses, it also discusses turfgrass systems for residential and commercial lawns, parks, and greenways. The book is an excellent introduction to the concepts of nonpoint source environmental impacts of turfgrass management for turfgrass scientists and specialists, landscape and golf course architects, turfgrass system and golf course developers, golf course superintendents, environmental scientists, and land-use regulators.

This report examines the extent to which the game is being impacted by environmental concerns & makes recommendations for future industry action. In producing the report, the law firm of Vinson & Elkins, which specializes in environmental law, interviewed golf industry leaders, federal officials & representatives of environmental-interest organizations to determine the industry's accomplishments & areas in need of improvement. The issues presented include: environmental & government relations plan for golf's allied associations; environmental issues facing other industries & their responses; 1987 EPA risk assessment study; Roper study of public perception; case studies on the effect of environmental constraints on golf courses; environmental issues affecting new golf course development; significant environmental issues affecting golf course operations; & the public's perceptions of golf courses as a community asset.

International contributors from fields related to the environment and development advance the understanding of integrated appraisal and decision making for sustainable development in low- and middle-income countries, and in transitional economies like those in Central and Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. A range of perspectives and methods are presented, and case studies employing integrated appraisals are provided. Specific topics include environmental cost-benefit analysis, and integrating environmental, economic and social appraisals. Case studies focus on Peru, the Caribbean, the Philippines, Guyana, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Spatial planning is a significant part of geosciences that is developing very rapidly. Many new methods and modeling techniques like GIS (Geographical Information Systems), GPS (Global Positioning Systems) or remote sensing techniques have been developed and applied in various aspects of spatial planning. The chapters collected in this book present an excellent profile of the current state of theories, data, analysis methods and modeling techniques used in several case studies. The book is divided into three main parts (Theoretical aspects of spatial planning, Quantitative and computer spatial planning methods and Practical applications of spatial planning) that cover the latest advances in urban, city and spatial planning. The book also shows different aspects of spatial planning and different approaches to case studies in several countries.

With current sustainability goals, changing the trends of golf course design and management is an important issue. Golf courses are a good focus because they are important socially, economically, and environmentally. This paper investigates Audubon International golf course conservation certification's role in assisting golf courses ecological well-being; and how this influences sustainability trends. A research review shows Audubon International is up to date on resource conservation practices. Consumers are important in reinforcing the trend of courses perusing certification. Consumer data is still needed to indicate if environmentally friendly design is highly demanded. If so, these courses will not only better conserve resources, but also gain a competitive advantage over other golf facilities and become more economically viable. Golf courses are already municipal revenue and environmental assets, conservation certification can further help these facilities achieve sustainability. Included is a case study of two courses within the same municipality that show higher revenue at the certified course. This reflects some support from the Jefferson County Open Space Fund for the courses outstanding wildlife habitate, but also likely the consumer's enjoyment of the course. However, it remains unknown if this support is in response to the conservation certification specifically.
