The book has 100 puzzles. Each puzzle has twenty vanity license plate clues listed below the puzzle. License plates can have no more than seven characters (letters and numbers) on the plate, but can have less. Vanity plates can be made up of letters and/or numbers that make a name or a phrase that the owner feels is funny, a good point about the car, maybe bragging about the car, something about a family member or something to be proud of and many things others won't understand. First the puzzle solver must decide what the clue letters and numbers are saying. An example of a clue is (ICUNVME) the puzzle worker then must find that phrase in the puzzle and circle it or draw a line through it. When a puzzle person finds and marks all twenty of the plates in the puzzle and is done, they will get a prize. The prize is the good feeling of solving the puzzle without looking in the solutions at the end of the puzzle book

This book provides an original and compelling analysis of registration as a dynamic process which makes and unmakes legal identities. Critical legal and socio-legal scholarship tends to assume that registration is a textually mediated act of statecraft which governs through the technology of writing. Taking a different approach, this book develops movement as socio-legal method to illustrate the legal, social, and bureaucratic layers of movement which unfold in everyday engagements with the law. The book presents empirical and theoretical analysis of historical, contemporary, and future-oriented places of registration: a community hub, a city of pilgrimage, and the General Register Office. Drawing from diverse perspectives across anthropology, geography, sociology, architecture, and mobility studies, the book argues for an understanding of registration as evolving, socially constructed, and shaped by spatial imaginaries which are materialised in its architecture. This mobile understanding of registration expands conceptual discussions of legal materiality whilst opening up possibilities for legal identities unconstrained by the assumed desirability of stability or endurance. This interdisciplinary book will appeal primarily to a sociolegal, critical legal, and legal geography readership; but it will also be of interest to those in other disciplines concerned with materiality, movement, and statecraft.

The Long Island Motor Parkway


Book Description

The Long Island Motor Parkway was constructed at a pivotal time in American history, and it often considered a precursor to the modern highway system. A forerunner of the modern highway system, the Long Island Motor Parkway was constructed during the advent of the automobile and at a pivotal time in American history. Following a spectator death during the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race, the concept for a privately owned speedway on Long Island was developed by William K. Vanderbilt Jr. and his business associates. It would be the first highway built exclusively for the automobile. Vanderbilt's dream was to build a safe, smooth, police-free road without speed limits where he could conduct his beloved automobile races without spectators running onto the course. Features such as the use of reinforced concrete, bridges to eliminate grade crossings, banked curves, guardrails, and landscaping were all pioneered for the parkway. Reflecting its poor profitability and the availability of free state-built public parkways, the historic 48-mile Long Island Motor Parkway closed on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1938.
