Upper Mississippi River Source Water Protection Initiative

Book Description

The Upper Mississippi River Source Water Protection Initiative is intended to protect the Mississippi River and associated shallow sand and gravel aquifers from the river's headwaters to the Twin Cities. These resources collectively provide the public water supply for nearly one-third of Minnesota's residents. By addressing the river and shallow aquifers as an interconnected hydrologic system, this project establishes the framework to collaboratively develop and implement source water protection strategies for more than thirty communities on a basin-wide scale.
