Where Have All the Shepherds Gone?

Book Description

Paul calls the Galatian Christians foolish! Having begun in the Spirit, are now being perfected by the flesh (see Galatians 3:1-3). Legalism and religion do not trust in the finished work of Christ and the efficacy of His blood to produce His intended results. Therefore, they always appeal to the flesh, teaching to control people through behavior modification, which make those pastors who yield to this model, not shepherds per se, but mere sin managers. The only force capable of restoring America’s local Churches in whatever areas need restoring is the Spirit of God animating the Word of God rightly divided, preached, and taught defining and biblically shaping and motivating the spiritual life of the body of Christ.

Where Have All the Men Gone

Book Description

I have found that there a so many issues that need to be addressed in the Church today. Not just in the Methodist church but in all Christian churches. I have realized that one need is to get Men back into church. Most congregations will have from 60% to 75% of Sunday service consisting of woman. We used to have congregations that were made up of at least half men. Why have they left and where did they go? I have tried to address this issue in this book. We have got to make church more friendly and comfortable for men. Many men feel that the Church has become feminine. Think about your church for a minute. What impression will a 25 year old construction worker have when he inters your church for the first time? Do the men in your church welcome first time men visitors? Are there activities in your church that this 25 year old construction worker can get involved in? There are many questions that need to be answered by us in our quest to regain the male presence that has become a missing part of our church today. I hope that this book will get some of you to try to answer these questions and start on the path to returning men back to Church. It will certainly make our churches stronger.

Where Have All the Servants Gone?

Book Description

Where Have All the Servants Gone? compares the first three Israelite Kings to the way we lead churches today. Where Have All the Servants Gone? uses the servant parable to tie the three kings to the job description Jesus laid out for us as church leaders and also to how we should lead the next generation into their roles in church.

Redefining Leadership

Book Description

Is successful leadership measured simply by the outcomes a leader achieves, or is there another—more essential—yardstick for measuring success? In Redefining Leadership, author, pastor, and college president Joe Stowell shows us that the best leaders are driven by Christ-formed character, and that truly successful leadership is not defined by the standards of this world but by the counter-intuitive practices and perspectives of the Kingdom of Christ. With compelling personal stories and insights from the Bible, he highlights the contrast between these two radically different leadership styles and demonstrates that the teaching and example of King Jesus, the world’s most unlikely leader, is the only model of leadership that leads to maximum results, results that will have an eternal impact.

Youth Ministry

Book Description

The Youth Ministry “movement” has become a monument. Youth leaders are doing so much work, and it all seems worthy. It’s big, important stuff. But leaders across the nation quietly suspect that the more we do, the less effective we seem to be in reaching young people. All those retreats and camps, books and seminars, conferences and leadership symposiums—what difference do they make in young lives today? As technology accelerates, spiritual apathy increases. Young people are biblically illiterate, bored, and find the church to be irrelevant. Parents are frustrated. Youth leaders are burned out. And high school and college students—if they ever attended--are leaving the church by the droves. What on earth has gone wrong? Youth Ministry: What’s Gone Wrong & How to Get It Right shines a revealing light on standard youth ministry practices, and helps the reader to see what needs to change. The book is full of practical ideas that work in real churches, and includes ‘voices from the trenches’—perspectives from current youth ministry leaders. Deep down inside, young people want life to matter. The church has something important to offer, but we have to start getting it right.

Believe what You Read

Book Description

"Believe what you read" are the first words used in the presentation of the Book of the Gospels to a newly ordained deacon by his bishop. In keeping with this spirit, Michael E. Bulson presents this collection of "timeless homilies for deacons." Deacon Bulson always roots the homilies in scripture readings, supplemented by such diverse sources as Kathleen Norris, St. Thomas Aquinas, Anthony de Mello, Karl Rahner, St. Augustine, Henri Nouwen, the movie Schindler's List, and many others. The result is a homiletic resource for deacons that is "ever ancient, ever new" in the words of Augustine-a bishop who had a particular love and admiration for his deacons. Book jacket.

Where Have All the Sheep Gone?

Book Description

At one time, more than one million sheep roamed the grassy areas of Arizona. Herding sheep was a critical component of the economy, building Arizona from its early territorial days into statehood. Fortunes were made, and, during economic downturns and other disasters, some lost everything. By the 1890s, sheepherding was a major enterprise in Arizona. Today, just over 180,000 sheep live in the state. Where Have All the Sheep Gone? details the untold story of the sheep industry in Arizona starting in the 1500s when the Spanish conquistadors began their push northward from Mexico and brought the first sheep as a food source. Arizona’s sheep industry is a rich history that has never been comprehensively told -- until now. Author Dr. Barbara G. Jaquay presents a lively, informative story through historical documents and personal interviews with the remaining sheep ranchers and family members. Depicting the lives of the early shepherds in Arizona and changes that have occurred over the last thirty years, Where Have All the Sheep Gone? casts a light on this disappearing way of life. It tells the compelling story of the families who worked diligently and proudly through successes and failures -- including droughts, range wars, and economic hard times due to government regulations and a shrinking workforce. Despite many challenges, the sheep industry managed to grow and make huge strides. Some families are still making their living from sheep today, trying to preserve a way of life that may soon be lost. Where Have All the Sheep Gone? tells the story of a vital industry to Arizona and, more importantly, of its people.

The Way of Light

Book Description

THE WAY OF LIGHT: The Way of Light focuses on the true Light (John 1:9) of the world (John 9:5) who came to enlighten every man to take him/her out of darkness (John 8:12). Any who do come to believe in the Light (Jesus) become sons and daughters of the Light, in fact children of the Light (1 Thessalonians 5:5). They will become Light bearers and shine as light in the world (Philippians 2:15). On numerous occasions within the context of these essays, the reader will encounter absolute truths regarding His being the Light. Readers will encounter various Scriptures which will testify to the claims Jesus made regarding His being the Saviour of the world. Most essays contain a minimum of 400 words, although some will be longer in length. Each essay will point the way to the Light (Jesus) in countless examples throughout the course of the book. For those who already follow the way of the Light (Jesus), they will discover examples as to how to share the Light (Jesus) with friends, family, relatives and associates. The Scripture states that none can come to Jesus unless the Father draws him/her (John 6:44) and that to be drawn into believing (faith) comes by the word of God (Romans 10:17). Many events point to a soon return of Jesus Christ who is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). THE WAY OF LIGHT in each of its individual compositions will point the reader to the true Way of Light.
