The Best Leaders Aren't People Instead, innovative and emerging research shows that a compelling and other-centered authentic purpose--The Invisible Leader--may be the most powerful influencer of our behaviors, attitudes, and motivation in organizations, work, school, and life. Yet despite the increasing evidence of purpose's power, many of the organizations, systems, and institutions which dominate human life aren't built to elicit and leverage the fundamental human search for purpose and meaning. In this must-read book for anyone who considers themselves a leader, international speaker, trainer, and organizational performance scholar Zach Mercurio shows business leaders, educators, students, athletes, and parents how to AWAKEN, CLARIFY, and DELIVER their reason for existence--their authentic purpose. Personal, researched, and even mind-shifting, the tools in the The Invisible Leader will help you lead with authentic purpose and build a life and organization that matters. A British Royal Air Force pilot recounts fighting over African deserts and Asian jungles during World War II in this military memoir. Merton Naydler joined the RAF at the age of nineteen and served for the next six years until May 1946. He flew Spitfires and Hurricanes during a tour of duty that took him to North Africa, Burma, and Malaya. This well written and extremely entertaining memoir portrays wartime life in the desert environment where sand, flies, life under canvas made living and flying a daunting experience. When Naydler was posted to Burma he was filled with “a deep and genuine dread.” After a long uncomfortable trip, he joined 11 Squadron and was then faced with Japanese Zeroes in combat over dense tropical jungle rather than Bf 109s over a barren desert terrain. “Daytime flying was hot as hell, the humidity intense”—the author’s description of his new posting that goes on to describe life in “Death Valley,” named because of the likeliness of falling victim to tropical disease rather than enemy aircraft . . . This is the story of a sergeant pilot who learned his trade the hard way in action over Africa and then honed his combat skills in the skies over Japanese-held tropical forests where he was eventually commissioned.

As far as his father, a famous writer, is concerned, Richard will never amount to anything, and so he decides to take his fate into his own hands. But at the last moment he is saved by Jake, who appeals to Richard not to waste his life. Together they set out for adventure, working their way through Europe, eventually arriving in bohemian Paris, where Richard meets Hesta, an entrancing music student. Daphne du Maurier's second novel is a masterpiece of narration, showcasing for the first time in her career the male voice she would use to stunning effect in four subsequent novels, including My Cousin Rachel. "A magician, a virtuoso. She can conjure up tragedy, horror, tension, suspense, the ridiculous, the vain, the romantic."-Good Housekeeping
