This season, twenty-seven dozen were taken in all, and of these twenty dozen, an unusual number were caught on June 28th, by Governor Anderson, Citizens G. W. Gray and T. H. Craige, and Apprentice Solomon Wagner. It is stated that they were well cooked and much relished by the company of twelve. Noble appetites those twelve voracious gourmands had; two hundred and forty fish, twenty for each person; while the stores furnished, show in addition, that to help them with the perch, they had a salmon, eleven and a quarter pounds of beef, and a lobster salad. It seems strange to relate that the very moderate amount of one-half gallon of punch, is the only beverage mentioned as consumed on this occasion, to wash down the prodigious dinner Let us trust "that good digestion waited on appetite, and health on both." At a meeting held in September, it was resolved "to levy an extra assessment on each member of ten dollars, to defray expenses that have been incurred by improving the property of the Company. At the annual meeting, October 9th, the following communication was received from Governor William V. Anderson: "philadelphia, October 9th, 1854.
