Book Description

Cultural resources inventory and evaluation of the Bear Creek Lake in Jefferson County, Colorado have focused primarily on the reconnaissance and assessment of the two historic structures which are architecturally representative of houses built in the late 19th century. No prehistoric archeological resources remain in the study area, possibly due to the extensive ground surface modification resulting from the construction of Bear Creek Dam and other mining and agricultural impacts. Prehistoric and historic reconstruction of the area are provided through literature searches and informant interviews. A prehistoric model is presented, resulting from background work in the region, which provides insights into the environmental factors associated with prehistoric habitation in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
