Canadian Machinery and Manufacturing News, Vol. 25

Book Description

Excerpt from Canadian Machinery and Manufacturing News, Vol. 25: February 10, 1921 In the 'center of the saddle is a group of small holes that are best included in one jig as shown by Fig. 12. This is a cast iron block containing the seven bushings - it drop's into the depression in that part of the saddle and is located by passing short pieces of Shaft through the large holes into the counterbores shown. A one inch pin-is employed for the feed throw-off and the hole for this is made by the jig in Fig. 13. This slides in the table vee and is located for dis tance by the strap butting against one finished end of a screw boss, and it is secured by a temporary set screw in the end hole. A somewhat similar jig serves for the inch tapped hole on the side. The above enumerated tools will cost between $500 and $600 with high speed cutters. The drill press will cost about $700 and it should be able to take care of all this work with a good operator. The large holes for the screw could be done more conveniently on a horizontal boring machine, but this job alone would occupy it but a fraction of the time.
