Campbell claimed that James Knibbs, engineer-in-chief of a steam fire-engine in Troy N.Y., had a patent as the original and first inventor of new and useful improvements in steam fire engine pumps, and that in 1864 Knibbs transfered the patent to Marcus P. Norton and his subsequent heirs.
