This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes the requirements for a V-band grooved clamp couplings that are intended for use on fluid-line tubing joints, tailpipe joints, and accessory mount joints, on flight vehicles or other attachments. The semi-rigid coupling joint assemblies, hereafter referred to as "the joint", shall operate within the temperature ranges specified in their applicable part standards. AS5355B has been reaffirmed to comply with the SAE five-year review policy.

WEIGHT AND OVERHUNG MOMENT OF ATTACHING ACCESSORIES SHALL NOT EXCEED THE LARGEST VALUE SPECIFIED IN AS969, AS970, AND AS971. 9FASTENING STRAP TO STRAP END OR STRAP TO RETAINER SEGMENT SHALL BE BY RESISTANCE WELDING OR RIVETING. 10SAE AIR869 FOR APPLICATION OF V-BAND COUPLINGS. 11STRAP ENDS SHALL BE STRAIGHT BETWEEN POINT OF TANGENCY WITH LATCH OR TRUNNION AND POINT OF TANGENCY WITH STRAP AS SHOWN. 12NUT TIGHTENING TORQUE SHALL BE MARKED ON COUPLING. LUBRICANT SHALL BE SPECIFIED IN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes the requirements for a grooved clamp coupling and flanges suitable for joining intermediate pressure and temperature ducting in aircraft pneumatic systems. The coupling joint assembly, hereafter referred to as "the joint", shall operate within the temperature range of -65 °F external ambient to +800 °F internal fluid. This aerospace standard is a departure from the prior qualification practices for the V-band coupling assemblies, AS4751. Prior practice sought to validate this type of assembled coupling design by conducting proof pressure testing but exceeded allowable leakage. AS6369 is to replace AS4751 for future design.
