Geothermal Resource Assessment of the Yucca Mountain Area, Nye County, Nevada. Final Report

Book Description

An assessment of the geothermal resources within a fifty-mile radius of the Yucca Mountain Project area was conducted to determine the potential for commercial development. The assessment includes collection, evaluation, and quantification of existing geological, geochemical, hydrological, and geophysical data within the Yucca Mountain area as they pertain to geothermal phenomena. Selected geologic, geochemical, and geophysical data were reduced to a set of common-scale digital maps using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for systematic analysis and evaluation. Available data from the Yucca Mountain area were compared to similar data from developed and undeveloped geothermal areas in other parts of the Great Basin to assess the resource potential for future geothermal development at Yucca Mountain. This information will be used in the Yucca Mountain Site Characterization Project to determine the potential suitability of the site as a permanent underground repository for high-level nuclear waste.

Final Environmental Impact Statement for a Geologic Repository for the Disposal of Spent Nuclear Fuel and High-level Radioactive Waste at Yucca Mountain, Nye County, Nevada: pt. 1. Comment-response document, Introduction, etc

Book Description

The purpose of this environmental impact statement (EIS) is to provide information on potential environmental impacts that could result from a Proposed Action to construct, operate and monitor, and eventually close a geologic repository for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste at the Yucca Mountain site in Nye County, Nevada. The EIS also provides information on potential environmental impacts from an alternative referred to as the No-Action Alternative, under which there would be no development of a geologic repository at Yucca Mountain.

Bibliography of Journals, Maps, Technical Reports, and Related Information Pertinent to the Yucca Mountain Site Characterization Program

Book Description

This report contains the results of a review and compilation of published and unpublished information that could be used to determine the potential for a useful geothermal resource within the Yucca Mountain controlled area. The study addresses the requirements described under the Site Characterization Plan Activity 8.3.1.9.2.1.3 - Assessment of the potential for geothermal energy at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. The bibliography cites more than 500 books, journals, maps, technical reports, and other pertinent information in two subject areas: regional data from throughout the Great Basin Physiographic Province; and data in the vicinity of the Yucca Mountain area, including the Amargosa Valley, the Nevada Test Site, the Southwest Nevada Volcanic Center, and Death Valley. The regional data assessment was compiled to establish a series of geothermal templates against which data collected in the Yucca Mountain Study Area could be compared. The Yucca Mountain data compilation focused on existing data in the following categories: geologic, hydrologic, geophysical, geochemical, and drilling surveys.
