Nuclear Decommissioning '98 - IMechE Conference

Book Description

Decommissioing of redundant radioactive facilities and reactors that have reached the end of their useful lives continues to be a growing activitiy engaging the nuclear industry. The financial liabilities associated with these faciltites are large. Emphasis is placed on achieiving minimum-cost decommissioning strategies that take into account available technology, political issues, and safety and environmental problems. Decommissing techniques continue to be refined and developed as a result of experience gained and the wider range of skills now being applied by the growing number of commercial companies that provide decommissioning service. Strategies also need to take into account the present position on radioactive waste disposal.
